These little creeps spawn in the Summer at night.

I'm trying to catch a Scorpion to finish up my Bug Encyclopedia, so are there any tips I should pick up on?
I know that they have a higher chance of spawning when it's after 11pm, but are there any specific places that they can spawn in?

For example, would they spawn in flowers, next to trees/PWPs, and on paths?
Because half of my town is covered in those >_<

ALSO, could tarantulas/scorpions spawn in other people's town if you visit them? Like beehives, they won't spawn if your gate is open, so would this apply to the tarantulas/scorpions as well?
It's only 2 July in my town, so would that just mean I'm too impatient? =_=

Oh, they're so disgusting, I was really scared of catching them.. buut I somehow managed to :D
They're only on ground, sometimes near building as such. If you're looking for scorpion, you should try to find it in september, cause then there's no tarantulas. You shouldn't walk with the net or they will attack you, so I recommend to walk around and when you notice it just pull your net and walk slowly towards it :D

Okay I just saw a tarantula spawn on bare land, but I did not pull out my net and it just disappeared afterwards :\

It was close to water, but it didn't fall into it. Was it afraid of me or something?

A tip that I would give is going outside, running around town, and going inside a building and back out. That will help greatly.

Hmm...>_<

Then, what if I run around the town and swat away all of the other bugs?
Just like how you would cut down all of the normal trees and scare off the wharf roaches on the island to boost higher chances of beetles spawning, would this help and try to get a higher chance of a tarantula/scorpion?

Gah, good luck! All I need is a scorpion, but I refuse to TT to get it :D Hope you catch them both! Sneaky little twerps!

They seem to prefer spawning in open, empty areas. I've found a few things that work well. You can go to ReTail and just enter and exit a bunch of times since that resets bugs, and I found that they tend to like the cobblestone areas by ReTail and your town plaza. If there are paths by ReTail/the town plaza, that's fine. I've had them spawn on them no problem. I've had some success scaring off other bugs.

I'll give you some tips on catching them, too. First, make sure you always have easy access to the net. If you wait too long to do something, they just disappear into thin air (not necessarily jumping into water). When you hold the net at the ready and slowly inch towards them, they will eventually make this "hissing" sound and start shaking. That's kind of like the equivalent of when tree bugs freeze up. Basically, they're in a more alert position. When that happens, stop moving. If you keep moving forward, they'll go forward and attack. After they stop hissing, continue inching forward until you are close even (again, stopping if they get angry). I've found that as long as you don't rush it, you can literally get close enough to walk on top of them without them striking.

You can't find Tarantulas/Scorpions in other towns or while your gates are open, so make sure you close them!

Great tips, SonatinaGena! Thank you! :D Can't wait to try it out!

No worries! One thing I forgot to mention is that you kind of want them to notice you and get angry, at least initially. If you creep up too slowly, they might just get bored and disappear or run off a cliff/into the water. You want to approach them quickly enough to notice you and to start hissing, but as soon as that happens and as soon as you get into the stare-down, you should stop until they calm down, and then you can keep moving forward. If you do it right, they will never leave the on-guard pose and will just stay still until you're in reach.

Haha, my husband is going to hear much screaming while I try these out. I'm terrified of the stupid pixels when they get all aggressive at me. Which is weird, because I'm not scared of bugs in real life. 0_o

already got 3 scorpions
haven't caught a single tarantula

Man, you're the exact opposite with me XP

GODDAMMIT
I saw a scorpion at the edge of my town (there was the beach right below it) and it looked at me, turned around AND BLOODY JUMPED OFF OF THE TOWN NUUUUUUUUUU
Suicide is not an option ;_;

I still need them in my first town but caught both in my other 2 towns.
Best time to catch a tarantula is during summer solstice. It's bright late at night and it's easy to catch one than.
Found removing flowers and a few PWP helped. I had two open spaces and was able to see them.
My 3rd firework night I caught both bugs. Scorpion was at the top of the event plaza. Also noticed that they spawn alot where the rocks that break show up.
At first I just looked for them and it didn't work. Instead I just went around town and did normal things. One I caught was when I was talking to a villager and I saw the bug moving. Another was fishing by the river when I saw the bugs spawn alot. Caught about 4 tarantula there. Another was in front of my house in the tulips and a villager ping me. Another was when I was in the fenced area. I keep perfect fruit in the fence area and was getting a piece of fruit for a villager.
The first scorpion I found in my 3rd town tried to hide in red tulips beside a villagers house. It was right beside the cliff and thought I would jump off the cliff. It just stayed in place. The 2nd one was showed up where the tarantula were spawning.

Think I've caught 10 tarantula and 3 scorpions. It's September right now in my 3rd town.

Carrying only the fishing rod or water can with the net. I removed all other tools from my pocket. When I saw the bug I stopped and than switch to the net and went into stalking mode. If it get close to the water move back. One tried to jump into the water and when I moved back it started to move toward me.
When it got close to the end of tarantula season they just moved a little and than stayed in the same spot.

Scorpions are so nice in your town .--.

All the scorpions I have in my town try to attack me first thing :(

They always scare me half to death when I first see them, unexpectedly of course. The trick is to be cautious yet speedy because they disappear if you're too slow. It's good to scare them and in the scorpion's case it'll make some kind of hissing sound IIRC and from there it has always been easy to catch them.

The first few tries though I got stung and fainted... xD

EDIT: Nevermind, I found out >_>

I saw a tarantula yesterday and I thought I should charge full speed at it and then on impact, that would trigger it to run towards me. Hence, it will be in my net :d
Failed though XD

Also wearing headphones to hear those 2 bugs helps. There were times where I didn't see anything move and they took me out.

Oh my gosh, I'm so scared of summer nights o.o The moment I hear the "schhchchshchhhhhehehhsch", my heart literally skips a beat... ;-;

I do have two scary/funny stories if you don't mind me sharing :3

One night I was walking around with my net (always prepared for brutal bug combat), walked right behind my Cafe, and BOOM like 1 foot right in front of me was this flippin' scorpion! Man I hit the A button so fiercely lol! I did catch it however :)

Another night, I was walking threw this thick forest of trees in my town and next thing I hear is the "schhrhhschshcessch" I had no idea where it was coming from so I ran out of their and ended up jumping on a stump xD. I sat there for like a minute turning around and taking pictures wondering how I can get out of this alive. I guess I turned around to many times and the scorpian stung me on the stump xD lol. I passed out really weird!

Anyway, good luck with your hunt :) I usually take on the run and scream YOLO approach xP Works 90% of the time for me.
