Maybe someone has fabricated a thread such as this before, but the idea came to mind.

ANYWAY, what are your "number one rule of video games"? Such as the do's and don'ts of certain games that you'd like to share.
For example, in Minecraft, rule number 1 is to never dig straight down. Or in pokemon, never use electric moves on a ground type. Ya those are some obvious ones but I started this thread to hear YOUR ideas.

I don't have a rule #1, but I do have an unwritten set of guidelines that tells me how to act while playing games.

Like, you know how whenever a level or something is just implying you should do something, and you know you should do it so you do, and all is well?

Some people don't have that. Some people don't have that innate... "gaming sense". I once gave my sister a mario game and she just walked into a turtle. Well first try right? its excusable. She walked into the at turtle more than once. without trying to jump, until she gave up.

sddflnkdsjfs HOW. HOW DO YOU NOT AT LEAST TRY TO SEE WHAT THE BUTTONS ON THE CONTROLLER DO, I mean I know she's not an idiot at all, she just doesn't get it and I have NO IDEA why.

That may have been unrelated to the topic so I guess mine is that in zelda games, leave no blade of grass uncut.

Rule #1: If you spoil it, I will punch you. Seriously, let me enjoy the ride no matter how late to the party I am.

dont reset in ac unless you want a good laugh?

Idk i honestly dont have rules

Rule # 1: With anything that involves leveling multiple characters, you must keep them around the same level (no more than 3 levels under or over)

I cant tell you how peeved I get when I see people have one really strong character in the group and everyone else is weak sauce :(

This, especially.

It's no fun when one person is plowing through enemies and you're sitting there like a rock. OR if you have that one higher level person and they aren't fighting, and you're getting your butt handed to you because you aren't strong enough. >=/

Animal Crossing Rule#1 : If an animal goes "BING" and wants to talk, I have to talk to them.

For a while I didn't understand games like Legend of Zelda where objectives are hinted, but you're pretty much free to do whatever you want otherwise... I liked the part where you could do whatever you wanted, but I couldn't comprehend the objectives. Also, the enemies scared me ._. I'm pretty sure I would have loved creative mode of minecraft as a kid though.... lots of potential for adventure and creativity, but no scary monsters to kill me.

as for my #1 rule.... um.... I don't really have one.... unless "don't play single-player games when friends are over" counts as a rule.... I don't want them to get bored.... ._.

My rule: Everything must be completed. All chests must be opened, even if it's for something that's low level, or if it's completely trivial, like in the case of Spirit Tracks, getting over 900 hits will result in a title change for you. That's the kind of stuff I do. I have to get everything.

Have fun. <- Best rule in the book.
BE THE BEST <- Second best rule in the book.

What if you're to play a game with random loot?

I know you don't mean Borderlands, BUT.

Borderlands 2 objectives, those little things you can rank up your BA points with? They keep going and are tiered. Impossible to complete every single one of them all the way. =O
