My villagers are all spread out, as I've created personalized areas for each of them, and I need enough space to make everyone feel special. Beau lives in a cabin on the mountains, Deirdre lives on my farm, Diana, Julian and Ruby live across my fairy forest and Moonlight Falls, Marina and Sprinkle on the beach... I plan to have Molly live in the middle of a duck pond and Teddy on the highest levels for his lumberjack lodge. For some of them I've done semi-residential areas (Skye and Fang live on a little forest close to each other, I call it the Wolf Woods), but overall I like them spread out <3

I made two community areas, they’re both on the second floor and have 4 villagers each, the last 2 are just nearby. I like the idea of having them all together but it would be too crowded with all the stuff I’ve put down and I’m not sure I’ll like it enough. XD

Spread out without yards because they have areas. Zucker and Croque in Little Asia, Mira in the highest point of the island which is space inspired since she’s Sailor Venus. Maple and Stitches share the forest with a heart pond and picnic area overlooking the campsite. Merry and Blaire near the shops. Dom near the beach close to the amusement park. Marina guards the lighthouse. I share the huge three-tiered coastal property near the secret beach with Marshal because he’s the only villager allowed near my house (there’s a backstory behind this stemming from way back NL).

I have 2 neighborhoods, one with 4 villagers, the other with 6. There aren't big yards around each house, but there is a larger "common area" for each. I thought about spreading them out, but it would have meant putting some up near my house, and I really wanted to be up and away, since my previous games have all had villagers almost on top of me.

I've visited quite a lot of villages and I would say most towns have a "residential area" meaning they put all of their villagers in one area and either give each one like a yard, or their is some common theme behind it.

Idk, I've never really liked this idea and tend to spread out my villagers all throughout the island. Yeah it makes it more difficult to visit each one, but more than likely they are in the plaza anyway and I always really liked giving each one their own area and style. For example, Timbra lives in like a 2 acre big estate which doubles as like a park. Aurora lives beside my nova light/rainbow garden. And Erik lives on a third elevation with snow and a christmas theme. Also I feel like if I had all my villagers in one area, idk what I would do with all the other area... and don't know when or why i would go to any of those places lol

I wanted to see how many people have a dedicated residential area vs. who has their villagers spread out throughout their island.
I have mine all grouped together in a little village area, but I wouldn't say they share a common theme? I put items out as if they'd have chosen to put them by their houses. Though I'm in the process of going from a haphazard placement to a hollow rectangle so they have less space for personal decorations. I'm thinking of setting up the pool in the courtyard and we'll see what else I have room for once I'm done moving all the houses.

Right now I have two neighborhoods but I feel like I’ve made the houses to close together. I’m going to spread them out over time. I’m not good at spacing things!!!!

I landscape my island based on my villager's houses so they look better spread out with the landscaping matching their own personal theme. The most residential area I have is near town hall where I have 5 villagers (Scoot, Ursala, Jambette, Freya, and Bianca) who live near in a town/city-like setting near the shops because their houses are the very basic looking type like this. Tabby lives on her own in the north in a small beach town because her house looks like a beach shack. Hamphrey and Quillson (soon to be Ken) live in a forested spa area that's more japanese-themed. Erik lives in the woods because it suits his cabin. Dizzy and I live on a hilltop on our own as well! His was special because I customised my house and landscaped our area to suit his blue theme.

I think if I had the power to invite (or tenacity to search for) any villager I wanted, then I would have gone for an overall-general theme and have the whole island be semi-consistent with that theme. However, I already grew attached to most of my original villagers so I gotta work with what I got lol.

I'm having trouble w/ my residential area too :( I can't seem to get houses aligned

I use a combination of digging holes with my shovel and terraformed paths to help me with alignment.

I have mine in a tiered neighborhood, like a lot of others and, yes, the houses on the first row are all the same style! I love it. Maybe it's because I'm from England (where houses on the same street tend to share the same style). Now I live in the US and the street I lived on a few years ago had so many styles of house it hurt my eyes!

Haha, Americans often complain that areas where all the houses look the same are too cookie cutter. I'm in Boston, and there are some areas where everything looks the same, like our Back Bay area which is largely brownstones. Most of my street is what we call a triple decker (three apartments, one on top of the other, usually two rooms wide and then they go deep, they're often 3-4 bedrooms and date to the 1890s-1910s for the most part, often have balconies, sometimes front and back, usually have bay windows) but there are some other styles mixed in, mostly 2-3 story houses that were built as single family and are now apartments.

Originally I was going for a semi-spread out look, with different residential areas per house type (beachy; rustic; polished; + one log house next to the campsite) but realised that it would severely limit my villager choices since I'd be needing to swap out like-for-like house-wise. And if I had them spread out on their own I'd still want to integrate the houses into their surroundings, which causes a similar issue (the alternative being I re-do the whole area to suit the house which. No. Also I felt like it would take up too much space honestly)

So I bit the bullet and made a tiered neighbourhood, which I hadn't wanted to do initially bc it felt a bit unnatural but I've found it's fine actually! They're ~8x5 (not including the fences), so enough room for flowers & furniture, with space on the "street" for some spillover furniture to make it look more homely. I've not finished it yet but its shaping up p well so far

I actually prefer clumping them, either in smaller groups or in my case split 5 and 5. This way, when I am looking for them, either to do a DIY check or to give daily gifts, I know which spots I need to go without going all over the island.

I keep my villagers in two neighborhood areas. At one point it was all girl section in one neighborhood and all boys in another. I didn't even realize and I changed it up and now they're all mixed up. Haha.

My original plan was to have them all over the island, but then I wanted to make a fishing village and a little town close to the forest. So now it's a mix of both - three villagers each in the residential areas (or four for the town) and the remaining three or four in their own areas.

for the most part, they’re going to be in a type of neighbourhood, except for 4 of them who have their own little areas ;;

I've grouped my villagers into 2 houses per "area", so I have pairs of houses in various areas across my island. Their outdoor decorations are pretty much the same though. 4 spaces between the 2 houses, a bench/clothesline in the middle of that space, hedge fencing, and white flowers of various breeds scattered around their dedicated outdoor area. Not sure how I should answer the poll because of that lol so a bit of both???

I have a neighborhood, but some of the houses are going to be separated from there so its not too cramped.

I want to have some houses next to each other, but I want them to have their own yards.
But I don't want to make the yards too big, because I might not have space for the other stuff I have planned.

ALL of my villagers houses are spread out, except for canberra and raymond - They're the backyardigans of Leybaki. Since Sprocket's house is really close to the plaza, i'm gonna make my final plot (yes - i have only 9 i'm saving up tickets to hunt for the members of Lilytown - My first NL town.) in the oppsite side of the plaza.

I have my villagers somewhat spread out, with around 3 smaller neighborhoods; one near the resident services, one on the hill above, and one near my museum. Sherb's on his own on the other side with the flower gardens and farming section to look like a little farmhouse.

I started out with a group on the middle portion of my island, but as I was able to make bridges and inclines they got spread out quite a bit. Though almost all of my houses have at least one other house visible near them.
