Resetting a town?

Have you ever reset an island before? I really want to reset my second island. In this case it helps to have 2 switches as I can transfer all the items I want to keep over to my main town so I won’t lose them, which makes letting go of the second island a little easier. What’s your experience with resetting?

The only time I've reset in this game was on, I think, the second day after release. I just couldn't get into that island for some reason. But I've had the same island ever since, and am planning to keep it for awhile... I'd love to see if I could keep it for a full year, I've never done that before and it'd be cool~

BUT, this is really unprecedented, as I tend to reset my older games a lot. But this game has a lot more to do, and a lot more options when it comes to designing your town (I mean, even if I decide I hate part of my town, I can easily redesign most of it) so it's been keeping me busier. In previous games, though, when it got to points where I was seriously considering resetting, I never ended up regretting it. If anything, in those cases I tended to regret NOT resetting sooner. But, that's just me!

Yeah I see what you mean. And for me it’s a little easier because I can save all my valuable items on my main town while I reset my second. So it’s not really the end of the world. Just excited to start fresh on one town.

Yah, the vast majority of the times I've reset I didn't have any way to save any sort of progress. I was THRILLED when ACNL introduced the town buyback program in that game. I could restart "fresh"... but also with millions of bells  I hope this game introduces that mechanic at some point!

All these people with multiple islands have me jealous... I have another Switch, but the joycons won't hook up to it. I COULD play it as a home console, but I much prefer handhelds. And I'd need to buy a pro controller anyway since IDK how to charge the joycons without hooking them up.

I got *this* close to resetting my island a few weeks back but made a last ditch attempt to revive my current island by just moving all my villagers' houses to the beach and essentially starting fresh... and now I love my island so much and am glad I didn't reset. that being said, since you've got two switches and two islands I say go for it!! if I had the chance to start a completely fresh island separate to my island I'd do it in a heartbeat... experience the game anew without the stress of having left my island behind

That's one of the best parts of this game! When I started disliking my forest, I just redid it. When I wanted a proper market area, I moved some houses and made one. The main reason I reset previous games was when I lost interest in the town layout... but you have a lot more freedom in this game.

And, while some people absolutely hate it, my RS plaza is steps from my airport and I LOVE it. Seriously, it's why I picked the town  It gives me a main business area right up front and I can't imagine not having that.

I get you on the RS thing!! mine is personally a healthy distance away (enough for a walkway and some cliffs etc) but after looking at what people have done I would LOVE to have my RS close to the airport to do a similar thing to what i imagine you've got! in my hypothetical second town where I can do whatever I want I'd probably try to have my RS close 🤩

I reset my island not too long ago and honestly I am so happy that I did that. I have a clearer picture now of what I want to do with my island and I just feel more relaxed. Before I reset my other island I flattened it to try to do a restart without actually restarting. However I did not like that and honestly wouldn’t recommend unless you’re really Good at terraforming and island design. I got a really good map the second time that was pretty much perfect for what I wanted to do so I had to do only a little terraforming (which I suck at lol so that was good). Plus in terms of items I did a lot of cataloging once I reset but you wouldn’t even have to worry about that because you have a 2 island. As for flowers the community on here is so helpful, just today I got so many hybrids. Definitely if you’re thinking about it and you’re not worried about losing the villagers then I say go for it

I’ve had the same experience! A couple weeks ago I was so so so close to resetting, but I decided to just go to the hard way and completely re-do all my terraforming, cliffs, rivers, and move every building
Don’t get me wrong it was such a tedious experience, but I love my island so much, and I’m happy that I didn’t have to let go of any of my villagers and the relationships that we have created, even if they’re a little electronic animal dudes

A few times I've gotten close to resetting but never actually did it. I love my island but I'm totally out of space to terraform and such which is making the game less appealing to me. My bf has stopped playing so I've basically took over his switch which is what keeps me busy now

I reset it yesterday. The question is going to be why you want to reset it. Is it something you can't change like airport color or where the mouths of the river are? Worth it. Is it because you think it'll be too much work to terraform and redesign everything? Not worth it.

I reset because I couldn’t work with south facing river exits. It made each side really small and awkward. But I’m happy now, I got the south and east river exits and as a bonus I even got the airport colour I wanted ☺️

I just reset recently. I will do a completely different aesthetic and it’s just easier for me to have someone hold stuff for me, reset and then catch up to the current date rather than completely tear my island down and redo everything (it’ll cost too much bells and take up so much time). To me it was worth it. I’m not very fussy with stuff so resetting isn’t a problem. I also enjoy the beginning part of the game the most so resetting kind of gives back the excitement for the game that you kinda lose the more established your island becomes. Also, now that we know much more about the game we could reset for stuff that are really important to us that bothered us in our previous island. I think most people who reset their islands are happier with their present islands than the ones they previously had. I’ve never seen many who regretted resetting. If this was like NL though, I would’ve just bought another copy of the game and kept my old island as well but unfortunately, I only have one switch so I had to reset.

Yeah if I could I’d just buy another copy, but I already have 2 switches and can not afford a third. So I’ll just reset my second one and transfer some items to my main

Well I reset and actually don’t regret it. I like my new layout and am excited to start building it. I still have my original town too, it’s just my second that I reset

I'm quick to reset if I notice something I don't like, no matter how insignificant a detail it may seem. I've been like this since new leaf. Any little imperfection that I can't change p much eats away @ me until I just go ahead and reset. There's always a small feeling of regret but that goes away quickly and then it feels freeing.

My first island I started on launch day lasted for a few days, then I noticed how unhappy I was with basically everything. I reset with zero regrets, and am currently considering resetting again. Didn't touch the game for almost exactly 2 months, and I'd rather start fresh with new ideas and inspo, than having to change a lot on my current island.

This is what happened to me as well before I reset. I kinda got tired of my island design overall that I didn’t play for like three weeks because I just didn’t feel up to it. Figured I wanted to change my entire island but it’d take so much time and bells to destroy everything and rebuild so I just reset instead. I don’t regret doing it. I regained excitement back for the game and my new island just overall feels better than my old one.

We reset my daughter's island to put her in the Southern Hemisphere. She hadn't progressed much at all, so we really didn't lose anything.
