after he came for the update, I got him two times in a row and then he was gone for a week. he showed up like 2 days ago and all the paintings were fake  so i bought a lamp lol

Only had his boat visit twice, the second time he had the nerve to show up with all fakes. Would be okay with seeing all fakes if he showed up more often, but currently having to wait so often is a drag.

Let's be honest, though..."everyone gets different character visits, so it's fair" isn't entirely true. I'm sure you will admit that there's a big difference between having Kicks sell you some worthless socks and a backpack, as opposed to having the opportunity to flesh out your museum. I think some of them are a fair trade (there isn't much difference between having Flick or CJ...or having Kicks or Label)...but I do think there is a difference when you're talking about Redd. He's more of a cornerstone. People who have him more often than the others are getting an inherent advantage to complete their museum first. I definitely feel like he shouldn't be absent for multiple weeks at a time...for anyone.

Maybe you could say that Redd and Gulliver are about the same on the "fairness" scale...but I haven't heard of anyone having Gulliver go missing for several weeks...so, probably not.

Even with time-travelling, I have only seen him 3-4 times. I wish he had a regular pattern for when he visits even if it was bi-weekly :(

Redd never came often in new leaf either, I saw him maybe 7 times in a year Once and it was way back when I started which was december of 2013 all the way to 2014 of when I got it.

It took me 4-5 years to complete the Art section of the museum Once he started to come more often like twice in a month half the time it would be stuff I already donated...

(I started a copy where I time travelled and got the art section done in less then a month Minus the other exhibits)

Eh, I mean it depends on everyone's goals. Some people have certainly had more of, say, Leif than Redd (which is my case; I think he's visited 4-5 times since Nature day, but I've only had Redd 2 times).

But again, does it really matter, though? There's no competition. You're not competing with other users on museum completion. If someone really wants to complete their museum ASAP and doesn't get Redd as often, they might as well: a. trade or b. visit other islands with Redd. If you're a completionist, I'm sure both ways are valid options for you (unless you don't have a Nintendo online subscription; but I'd say most people do nowadays).

It's not a competition, but a lot of people like the slow grind of adding things gradually...and want some degree of normalcy in doing so. Like, I personally enjoy adding a new item to the museum and then going and looking at it. It makes me happy to do that. So, if I'm going weeks and weeks without doing that, it starts to feel somewhat depressing, actually.

And you can't underestimate how many people play Animal Crossing as a solo experience. Suggesting that people go to other islands to find Redd, or simply trade art with other players is all well and fine...but there are plenty of people who don't want to play that way. It doesn't mean that their experience should be so drastically different from everyone else. Theoretically, everyone should be able to complete their entire museum within one full year cycle. That's just my opinion. If for some reason, that isn't possible...I don't think that's acceptable. There are a lot of art pieces...and if some people are literally only getting Redd once per month, then they are definitely not obtaining that one-year cycle goal.

I think he only comes every 2 weeks from what I could gather which is around the same time it takes for villagers to move out - it should be on a weekly basis for both, if you ask me.
I suppose this isn't a huge problem for those who TT but for those who don't (such as myself) it becomes really tedious. It'll probably take me years to collect all his stuff.

I've also only seen him twice. It's frustrating because while I'm not in any rush to finish my museum, I also don't want it to take me years. I agree with everyone saying he should visit at least once a week, especially since it's possible for him to only sell fakes.

Also if Nintendo is doing this because they want to stop people from time traveling, what's the point? If anything it will encourage them to time travel more often to get him and it makes the game even more tedious for those who don't time travel like me. And in my opinion, everyone should be able to play the game however they want. I'm not sure why Nintendo cares so much.

I understand that this game is meant to be played long-term, but MAN does it feel like the art section of the museum will never get finished! With how beautiful the museum is in this game, I have a stronger motivation to finish it than in past games (never fully finished the museum in WW or NL.)

There's a lot of discussion on his appearance rates being due to preventing time travelling. Wouldn't be the first time Nintendo punished the rest of the playerbase for the actions of the few. I thought it was to promote AC's longevity... or something like that.

Na, it makes the game more challenging :)

Not sure if challenging is the word I’d use but I think I agree with your sentiment. Animal Crossing is all about the slow, relaxed paced. While I do think Redd should appear at least once a week, there really isn’t any rush to get all the art. We have YEARS of this game ahead of us and I rather not start completing things so early. Heck, I’m a little shocked and a bit bummed that I’m already almost done with fossils.

agree. i prefer to get the stuff for the museum from my own island, which would take multiple years at this rate. his spawn rate is way too low. i mean, i've gotten paintings from other islands twice i wanna say? the first so that he would show up at my island at all (that one glitch with TT/ignoring his visit), the second because he hadn't shown up and i assumed it was glitching again... if he was intended to spawn almost never that was a really bad choice on the devs' part, i hope they up the spawn rate soon.

i'm with you!!! believe they only limit him because of the people that tt... but what about us that don't??? it will take sooo long before we complete it. i don't think it's necessary to make him so rare, even if people do tt it's not as if they can just give us their items? they're not orderable and some of it would end up fake! it's hard to wait for a certain art as it is.
I feel you, I had him twice, never saw him again. I look everyday for the grey smoke from the secret beach and he is never there(but he is family!)

But again, we can agree to disagree. It looks like we have two different playstyles. I'm in no rush to complete the museum nor do I think the museum feels depressing without that. It's just another goal to look forward to, from where I'm standing. And no, I don't really agree with your take on finishing the museum in a year. Where does it say in the game that that's the intention?

Yeah I wish he was added to the weekly rotation. He just doesn't come by often at all. It's going to be hard to complete your museum without visiting other people's redd or trading for specific pieces online.

yes, i have had him twice and the second time it was all fakes except for one, which was a repeat of the first painting he sold to me...

yes! ever since the update and when i first got redd, i’ve only seen him once after that, they really need to increase his spawn rate

I think he can come no more than once every 2 weeks because of how the code for the NPC spawns work (the dataminers found this recently). When he does come, I usually TT back and forth a couple times to get him to spawn several times and give me more real art, and also let my friends choose whatever I don't buy first.

At the rate Redd appears, it wil take years to complete the museum, especially if you don't trade or tt. There are 43 art pieces in the game. Even if Redd would show up every week, it would in theory still take more than a year to complete the museum.

It seems there are 2 days in the week that has a chance for Redd, CJ, Flick Label and Gulliver to appear right now. Redd should appear every 2-3 weeks on average, but what if more NPCs get added? He would show up even less often then.
