Do we have any reasons to have at least one of each villager type on our island yet? in new leaf we had public works projects that could only be suggested by a specific personality type, making it interesting and rewarding to have all the types but since pwps are seemingly gone now except for bridges and ramps, that feature is no longer.

do you think there will be something similar in new horizons, maybe you learn different diy recipes from different personality types?

and do you think it's important or good to have something that would make players want every personality type on their island?

I imagine we'll get certain DIY recipes from certain personalities.

I don’t think there really needs to be any extra incentive outside of just wanting them for variety—I know some personalities have more visually appealing Villagers than others, but it never even occurred to me to pass over one of the types.

That said, I think you’re onto something with certain DIY recipes being tied to each personality, and definitely see that encouraging people to keep one of each around. Plus, at least in the beginning, I’m sure it’ll be rewarding just to see all of the new dialogue, interactions, and animations! :3

I wouldn't be surprised if all the "Zen" themed items come from Cranky Villagers, and so on. Just like New Leaf. Just makes too much sense...

Regardless of unlocks, I don't know why you wouldn't want to have at least 1 of every personality type. I think the only downside of Animal Crossing in general is that, ultimately, every villager of one particular personality type acts exactly the same except for some minor differences (like their catchphrase). I think it would get boring if, for example, you had 10 villagers that were all lazy personality. Then it would be like the equivalent of palette swapped enemies in other video games - they act exactly the same, just look different.

We have recipes.

I don't really need a reason to have all of the personalities other than wanting the variety in dialog and interactions. I will always want at least one of each personality regardless of whether there are any extra incentives or not. I wouldn't mind having certain things like DIY recipes linked to certain personalities, though. It can help narrow your odds if you're trying to farm a certain thing and know which villager is more likely to give it to you.

Like others have said, I am sure certain personalities will unlock certain recipes. Though I wonder why they are having us start with a Jock and Urchi. Sadly those are probably my least favorite ones. I hope in this game or future ones they develop more personality between character vs just the personality type. I would love if each villager became truly unique but I’m sure that’s not easy. Especially with so many different characters.

as already mentioned, it is likely we’ll only obtain certain recipes from certain personalities but for gameplay sake, i suppose the dialogue variety is another reason to have all of the personalities

Nope.

I'm having villagers I want, not villagers of types I don't want.

I hope it'll be like this !

I don't. It's too much like PC, where certain villager types give you different essences and material.

This would mean we would have to have villagers we don't want, just to progress in collecting recipies.

I really hope it isn't like that because it would feel very forced.

well i mean,, new leaf did the same with certain personalities suggesting certain pwps. it’s not all that different

Yep, and I had to have jocks which are my least favorite in my town until I unlocked the PWP's I wanted from them.

I thought since NH was a new game, it might have progressed past having the player host villagers they don't want, just to unlock things.

Different villagers of the same personality are really just pallet swaps, unless something has radically changed with New Horizons. An island without variety in personalities will become boring and stale quickly.

Its harder to noticed how similar they are when there is only one or two of each type in town. It drastically improves immersion :D

This, basically. Unless EACH villager has a personalized "tag" in its code to give it unique dialogue... the personalities are going to be similar to the same type of personality. And quite frankly, this is very unlikely to happen so they'll likely share the same dialogue even though New Horizons DEFINITELY stepped up the dialogue variety to 11.

Unlocking the PWPs in New Leaf was a hassle. If it is based on personality, they need to be more frequent.

If its anything to you, we've seen that if you talk to a villager who's working at a workbench, you were likely to get a recipe out of the conversation. I could see this being rather exploitable, if you put down enough DIY workbenches.

I would not mind it. I played initially with all different types in New Leaf since I had not really cared at the time, plus I wanted those works projects. I would presumably then added whatever villagers I wanted once I was done with the recipes.
