Raymond the cat like or dislike?

Dislike.

Raymond has heterochromia. That is the only thing special about him, aside from the fact he is new... Also there are millions of New AC players this time around, so the toxic hype train is mainly being driven by people who have played AC previously, because new players don't care who is new.

Raymond is a cat, and cats are popular, but Raymond doesn't come close to:
Ankha, Punchy, Lolly, Mitzi, Bob, Merry, Rosie, and more.

There are also better smugs, such as Graham, Kyle, Julian, and Marshall.

I have a love and hate for him, but like him because he resembled someone and the fact he was my first camper and grew on me, but there is more cats and villagers I like more than him.

When I first got ACNH I was playing with my cousin when he told me all about the Raymond hype, I didn’t know who Raymond was because he’s new so I figured he must have been super cute so I looked him up and he just looked normal. I don’t care for him, I guess people just like his personality on another hand I have Marshal and judging from Raymond screenshots I’ve seen they say Basically say the same things... so all in all, I wish I understood what makes people so In love with him.

He's not my favorite of the islanders, but I love Raymond and I hope to eventually have him on my island one of these days. He reminds me of my favorite anime character type so I ended up developing a soft spot for him because of that.

My dislike in regards to him lies with the fandom as a whole. Just. The way people act when it comes to him(both positively and negatively) is kinda ridiculous in my opinion. But like none of that is inherently his fault, so I'm not letting fan reception spoil my views on him as a character. At the end of the day I like him and find him super endearing.

I personally think his design is ok at best. I mean if it werent for the two different colored eyes I dont see him being as popular. But he also has that same face that marshall has so I guess regardless of the eye colors he would be compared to him and become popular. I'm honestly just bored with the cat. Feels like every single town has or wants him and does.. the same thing to him as every other town. No variety for the poor man and all he wants to do is finish the paperwork .

Anyway. My main issue is just how people have handled his popularity. The bell to nmt ratio SKYROCKETED because he is so popular and has no amiibo. People message others and put them down to try and coerce them into giving him up. There are now villagers and nmt going for real money so people can try to find him, buy him from someone else, or spend $50 on a virtual cat. (But nintendo apparently shouldn't have paid DLC? ) people can have their own likes/dislikes but it's honestly just... popular to like him in general. And if you DONT like him and speak up or say something about how ridiculous this all is you get attacked saying you're being toxic and not letting people play how they want? (I just dont think hes cute i-) and I mean yes normally you can just scroll past but when theres 100s of topics EVERY DAY and 1000s of tweets EVERY DAY about this cat like. It's hard not to say anything at that point lmao

I'm horrified to see what it will be like when he finally gets an amiibo card and people start selling them.

I love Raymond(he's one of the villagers I saw in the data mine that I fell in love with. the other one being Judy). He immediately beat Punchy for my favourite cat villager. But I also don't think his design is anything too special(I'm biased because I like cats and his aesthetic in general, but if I was looking at his design objectively...it's nothing too special). I'm sure he was always meant to be a popular character(he is a cat after all), but I think his popularity only sky-rocketed because of the amount of attention he was getting on SNS. At the end of the day, I like him. But I also feel like he's the same as any other villager. He's in my island because I love him, popular or not. Everybody has different preferences so it's fun to see who other people like(or dislike).

The way people scam for him and ask for money/gift cards for him(I mean I get using bells or NMTs, but actual money?) has been a little off-putting but I wouldn't put the blame on the villager(I've seen the same type of behaviour for other popular villagers, I think Raymond scams stand out more because he's the most popular at the moment).

I was actually pretty neutral on raymond for a while, it was fun to joke about him w my friends and stuff! Then I started hunting for my partner's dreamies which were dom and raymond

I started off not caring much for either of them but now I adore dom but raymond.....not so much.......I really think I woulda loved him as a cranky but something about the smug personality with the dull grey business aesthetic bothers me alot (tho maybe also has to do w the fact I enjoy bright colored villagers haha)

I think the weird gay fetishization surrounding him is really messed up and disgusting but at the same time, so is his hatedom. I can see why people like him so dang much, but at the same time, all the hype kind of ruins his originality. Sooner or later, crazy numbers of players will have him, and he won't be special anymore. That's why I would probably never take him if I found him on my islands. He's cool, but I think Marshal and Julian are more my type of villagers.

I think he's cute, but I wouldn't go wild trying to get him like some people have on stream and on these forums. Raymond is not that important to me. I have Colton in my town and I think he's pretty charming and an underappreciated smug. He has total prince vibes. However, that being said, I would still ask Raymond to move in though if I seen him when island hopping since he's a cat and has a nice design. It is kind of similar to how when I was island hopping and found Fauna I couldn't resist even though I hadn't originally wanted another normal personality type since I had two others. Some villagers are too cute to pass up even if they are popular. I'll let fate decide whether he becomes a resident or not once someone moves.

I like Raymond. As much as I like (my other villagers) Claude and Wolfgang and Rolf and Zucker. It bewilders me that anyone could love one villager and at the same time hate another villager with the kind of rabid intensity I've seen on this board and on reddit.

Sure, I've seen villagers I would probably never invite to my island because the way they look makes me wonder. But I wouldn't hate a villager just because he's exceptionally hairy or violently pink or incredibly popular. To me, that's a really odd thing to do. How popular a villager is does not affect my game or my life. How other people act when they love or hate a villager also does not affect my game or my life. I can find better ways to spend my time than to feel angry or upset over something that I have no control over and that doesn't affect my game or my life.

I'm old and bewildered by all this constant drama.

I was really happy to get Raymond in New Horizons because I always thought it was a major oversight by Nintendo to not have a friggin' smug cat.I speculated on a post I made here before NH came out that Nintendo might try to "fill in the blanks" by adding personality/species combinations that didn't exist and that's what they did(i.e. Judy,snooty cub,Cyd cranky elephant,etc.).However,I didn't expect Raymond to blow up like he has.It's even crazier than the big Marshal explosion from New Leaf.Raymond is a good smug villager but people really shouldn't be going nuts over a video game character.I've seen this behavior from working in retail for many years.I remember the big Cabbage Patch doll craze from the early 80's with people fighting and rioting over some chubby dolls that looked like the love children of H.R. Pufnstuf and a hobbit.Scarcity breeds insanity.

I understand and agree so much. I have him (got him from the campsite) so I can complete a project with him and bought him for both my fiance and his best friend. I really don't like interacting with most of his fanbase. Fortunately, the two purchases I had to make for him on here were with very lovely people that weren't trying to sell him for outrages prices and were very sweet.
