Random thoughts thread. (New Horizons)

I think I am just gonna to buy the models for the coelacanth and golden stag on here.

These are incredibly rare creatures, so I don’t want to push my luck with them. The golden stag won’t be out until July anyway. I rather just sell everything after donating them to the museum.

Besides, I do want to get all of the host and visitor and achievements eventually, so I’m just gonna take advantage of that by getting some help with the models and other things.
I haven't gotten enough for those, but I feel the same way with the cicadas shell. I'm lucky I even found one. I had to finally go on a Nook island and destroy the entire island minus for a few trees on the mainland. And even 'terraforming' it that way so that I guaranteed nothing else but cicadas would spawn on the trees it still took like almost 2 hours to find one.

Maybe others have better luck with rng for the shells, but I've only seen one whole shell since my time of playing in 2020 lol. And I had to actively destroy an island for that to happen.

I had stitches showed up last night in my island.... I was super excited because he was a favorite of mine years ago
I love Stitches!

And today one of my visitors was Deli, another of my favorite Lazy villagers. I declare, this game makes them cuter than any of them ever had a right to be. He was a hotel visitor and I just wanted to adopt him into my island right there.

Something I noticed or at least since the update. Villagers no longer walk to the plaza when K.K. Slider is there unless they are going to sit in the chairs there.

Before the update, Villagers would often walk onto the plaza carrying either brown paper bags or a handbag with them when they walk up to it while he is there. They still do this, but not when K.K. is there now.

I managed to catch three coelacanths this morning, since it was raining, so now I just have to wait for CJ to come back. ^_^

I just got him a few days ago, though, so it could be a while. >_<

(DW, I already donated a coelacanth a few days ago)

The next Animal Crossing game, while retaining advanced graphics like New Horizons’, should go back to New Leaf’s seasonal colors. In particular:
  • September 8th is when the dark green grass and trees starts to turn a bit yellow (the green side of lime).
  • September 16th is when the grass and trees are lime-colored (the yellow side of lime).
  • October 17th is when the grass and trees all become yellow.
  • November 2nd is when the grass and trees all become light orange.
  • November 10th is when the grass and trees become orange.
  • November 18th is when the grass and trees become red.
  • November 26th is when the grass and trees become brown.
I’m sorry to say, but I do not like New Horizons’ seasonal color scheme.

Welp, looks like we are going to get a new wave of creatures tomorrow, as March will be here. Wish me luck guys, I might need it for the spider crab and golden trout. 😌👍

You can do it. I caught at least three spider crabs today (I'm a day ahead) and if I can manage to tread my way over the top of them and dive anyone can do it. Finding the golden trout will probably be more of a challenge than the catching of it, although if I don't close my eyes and just listen for the splash I lose so many fish it's ridiculous.

I wish the events were more interesting in this game. In New Leaf, during Halloween, we'd have to buy masks to scare villagers and it was fun trying to guess which one each villager was scared out. And during Christmas, we'd get clues all month of December as to what each villager wanted and then have to guess which toy in Jingle's bag fit what that villager wanted. Heck we even got to work in the Roost and guess coffee orders. I get that this isn't New Leaf but it feels like the events were seriously regressed.

I feel you here. When I fish, I have to look away. Otherwise, I will get jumpy and take my bobber out too early.

OMG same, so I'm always looking away when I'm fishing and listen solely for the sound.

Wow. I managed to get a spider crab after only diving for a couple minutes. I even got it before I got my daily scallop.

Agreed. i’ve also noticed that a lot of the events rely a lot on crafting. I miss just getting actual items during the events. The same can be said for the golden tools. They are a lot more rewarding to get in previous games.

I prefer New Horizons Cherry Blossoms over New Leaf's.
(Both pictures are from my towns.)

And if I see this colored tree during the winter one more time. I will find a way to burn the town to the ground. lol

I'm so glad they were not a thing anymore. Whenever I saw the way the trees looked during the winter in NL, I have the urge to chop them down; I only stop myself because I have to re-plant them.

Keep those [Word I can't say on TBT]-colored trees away from me.

You know? Leif sells various flowers, vegetables, and bush starts.

So, why doesn’t he sell fruit? That would be so good.

It doesn’t matter to me anymore, as I have all the fruits on my island, but it is something I have been thinking about for a while.

This goes for all AC games (excluding Wild World - it apparently does not have it), but I never understood why the basement is not treated as an actual room and is only treated as a "storage" room. It is also apparently excluded from the HRA scoring from what I've read.

I can understand this for the Game Cube version, considering the storage execution in that game is atrocious--people could just fill that room with dressers and use them all for storage. Granted, I believe the Deluxe mod I installed improves upon this, but I have to consider the vanilla game.

But in City Folk? New Leaf? And New Horizons? I don't understand it. We have a proper storage system in these three games, so I never understood the reason to have a perfectly functional downstairs NOT function as an actual room or NOT be counted towards the HRA. Despite this, I am still treating these as actual rooms. It would be a waste of furniture sets to not to.

to be fair, in new leaf i actually do use my basement as storage lol. i use it to store a bunch of clothes. not only to make more room in my actual storage for furniture and my miscellaneous items (such as backup axes, villager photos, my gemstone hoard), but also so i can see the clothes. in storage they just show up as the shirt/pants/dress/etc. icon and i don't remember what every clothing item looks like just from the name. (you may think the storage expansion gives me more room for clothes, but alas, i have many many items. my new leaf town is 11 years old after all.)

my basement is an actual room in new horizons, though. i use it to show off my trophies and the collectables i get from CJ and flick.

your mum eats pot noodle (4).jpg

This goes for my main island, and my kingdom island. I was able to get the Trevally fish. But this one beautiful looking fish, rather not appear.
Having to go through fish bait like this is crazy XD

In terms of items, the counterfeit paintings and counterfeit statues are the scum of the entire game. The lowest-selling fish and the lowest-selling bugs don’t make much, but even they make some Bells. Even weeds and trash are accepted by Timmy and Tommy and have a practical use. But counterfeit art, that’s the one item that Timmy and Tommy will not accept when you get rid of stuff. No villager wants them either.

Next game should make counterfeit art even more of a nuisance. Have any of them on display in your town, your town’s rating (for perfect town status) will significantly drop. Have them on display in your house, you’ll have the biggest point deduction from the HHA for each offending piece you put on display. Make them more hated than sea basses.
I think it’s very annoying that they won’t accept counterfeit art…at least with a disposal fee. I think the next game should at least allow us that.

However, I do think having them be penalties to our town rating and HRA scores could be interesting. 🧐

I don’t care to decorate my house or towns/island with counterfeit paintings anyway.

I like the brown leaf color in NL, it makes so much more sense than an island where it's too warm for the trees to go dormant and there are still butterflies, but so cold there's snow on the ground for weeks on end?

Do you not have garbage cans? I'm pretty sure you can throw the counterfeit paintings in the trash.

In light of daylight savings time happening tonight, I decided to conduct an experiment.

I decided to log on my ACNH game (along with New Leaf, which I now play on my PC) at 1:57AM.

I wanted to see if the NL and NH clocks would automatically skip to 3 AM, since my PC and my Switch 2 clocks adjust automatically (THANK GOD).

They did not. The in-game time on these games just went over to 2AM. I had to log back out of ACNH and then re-log in for the in-game clock to sync with my Switch 2 one.

And I had to adjust my NL clock manually, probably since I was already logged on when the actual IRL time skipped past the entirety of 2 AM.

I went on the three other mainline games, since I also played them all on my PC. They were all set to 3 AM already.

I saw a video on Reddit earlier today. The player had three normal villagers on their island. They talked to all of them in one go, and all three of them said the same thing.

It would've been awesome to have a search menu in the catalogue when decorating the inside of a hotel room, at Harvey's, at HHP or even the inside of a villager's home.
