When your picking up a villager from another town can you pick up more than one in a day? Will the 2nd one just move in the day after or something? I haven't tried it that's all...

If you ask two villagers to move in on the same day, the most recent one is the only one to move in as they cancel out the first request.
So if you invited Chrissy and Francine, in that order, only Francine would move in. But if you get Francine, TT one day ahead, you could ask Chrissy to move in. I did it for merengue I'm holding for a friend, next day after I asked her to move in, I picked up Bruce. They're both in town now

What Loviechu said. I picked up Miranda and Merengue one after the other (when i had 8 villagers), and only Merengue showed up. TT a day forward so that the first villager sets their plot down, then you can invite the second.

Well that is true also but if a villager moved out or comes in then you cant another villager in at least 5 days

Well, it's true that villagers take 5 days to move out - so if you have a full town, then yes you have to wait (or TT) someone out before you invite someone in. But if you have 8 villagers, then you can invite 2 in, one day after the other c:
