Question about time travel. Is this safe?

A villager just pinged me about moving out. I want to keep him so I said no. Am I safe to travel as far as I want to in the future without villagers moving out? I remember hearing about this before, but it's been some time since I got into the game. I'm trying to unlock eye colors and would like to go ahead two weeks.
