Hello, I have a question and it's kinda confusing, but I'll try my best to word it!! ; v;

Okay, I have two copies of ACNL, a digital and physical. They're both copies I bought before the Welcome Amiibo update. So while they're both updated and can use amiibo, they're not the "Welcome Amiibo" game itself. Like, they both are still a white leaf and a green background on the home screen, not the green leaf and white background etc. I went on eShop to spend the 35 card I had gotten for my Wii U before it broke, so I had some extra money to buy whatever on the eShop. I noticed that I can buy ANOTHER digital copy of ACNL because it's considered a "Welcome Amiibo" copy, not just an updated version of an old copy. So my question is, can I have TWO digital copies now? It gives me the option to buy it. I'd love to buy a third town since I have the chance, but I don't want to risk it not working and waste 20 bucks.

I apologize for how confusing this sounds. I'm not good at explaining things. ; v; Thanks for any help! <3

Tbh, I'm close to just buying it and seeing if it lets me. But I'm scared of somehow ruining something or wasting money LOL

I see why it would work, but I can also see how it wouldn't work. It might see that you've got it already and won't let you play, like a 'previous save detected, loading previous save' type situation, then again I'm not sure. If it considers them to be two separate games, it should work. I think you can refund it if it doesn't work though, right? No harm in trying, I suppose ^^ quite curious to see if it works too! lol

Interesting, though slightly expensive, test! It'd be great if it worked though, in that you could have up to 3 towns (the 2 digital and 1 physical) without swapping cartridges.

Update: So far, it worked! It downloaded and I am making my town right now. After I make the town, I'll check my other towns and make sure they're ok. c: It was an expensive test, but I'm not too sad about it. The eCard was bought for me from a friend for my Wii U but my gamepad broke so.... I looked at all the games I wanted and there was literally nothing except Pokemon Yellow, so why not. :)

Wow, that is so good to know!! Thanks for doing this experiment ^_^ Are the icons for both games different btw?

Yes, the Welcome Amiibo one is a green leaf with a white background with what looks like colored confetti on the left side, while the old one is a simple white leaf in a green box. Also when you hover over it and Isabelle is running, the Welcome Amiibo one ltierally says "welcome amiibo" :)

Another note;

In the Activity Log, the welcome amiibo is counted as a separate game as well. So my digital copy and physical copy are counted as the same game in the Activity Log, but the new digital copy is a "new" game.
