I tend to do this with any new game I get. But, admittedly, ACNH has been very different because... well, my RL responsibilities are limited right now. Just before the game came out I found out I wouldn't be returning to work for awhile (I work in a school, schools closed for the rest of the school year) and the only thing I had to do were occasionally watch videos online and attend a weekly online meeting. So, yeah, most of my time was put towards video games... and ACNH was the main game. Frankly, I can't imagine anyone who's life hasn't changed at least somewhat with everything going on- and it's certainly more appealing to spend your days in a virtual island paradise then deal with the chaos that is real life right now. I mean, island paradise with animal neighbors sounds good in any situation. But now? MUCH more so.
One thing that may help (if you or anyone else is looking for advice to play less), and I know some people hate it, but it might work if you're worried about potentially missing something- time travelling. If, say, you have time to play today, but not again until the 21st or whatever... just play the 16th today and, when you have time again, set your Switch's date to the 17th. That way you won't need to be concerned about missing anything because you won't. Again, I know some people are really not interested in time travelling at all for whatever reason, but this might help you be less concerned with playing every day. And TTing really doesn't affect your game in any major ways.
