Does anyone know if there is a trick to get villagers to request public work projects? I really want a lighthouse. I've read that it's completely random, but I also heard that about getting villagers to move and then I found a trick on tumblr that actually works. If anyone doesn't know, you can get villagers to move by fast forwarding 2 days and then going back 2 days and someone should say they are leaving. I've tried this a bunch of times and it works.

Could try the swimming trick if you have a wetsuit. Apparently if you swim for five minutes or just stay on the beach in general for around the same time without anyone else seeing you for a while, there's a higher chance of getting more requests sooner. So I heard anyway.
As for the time traveling trick... There are some villagers I really like and don't want to move and others I just can't stand. I prefer to have patience when it comes to having them leave. Just in case someone I like left without notice... Been there already.

Thanks for the tip. So basically you get a new public project request when a villager moves in/out?
I got the lighthouse a few days ago, a pain to set as Isabelle is so picky :/

Thanks MistyWater, I will try that! If there are some you don't want to move out, you can just tell them not to go. I've never had anyone say they are still leaving after that, but if you don't want to risk it it's probably a good idea haha.
No sorry for the confusion MattKimura, the fast forwarding trick is just for getting villagers to move out. I don't think it has anything to do with PWP if someone moves in/out.

Happy to help. Even if it's just a rumoured to work trick...
I'm constantly having my favourite villagers wanting to move out. I always tell them no and talk to them everyday so they'll stop asking. Maybe someday I'll let some go, but others are never leaving!
Glad to know one of my hated villagers is moving though after a few weeks of waiting (and doing the TT trick)! Yay!

The swimming trick does work. I had someone suggest the police station after swimming in the sea for 5 minutes, once a rack of rice. It works for trades as well ^.^
It totally works, just fill your pockets with items villagers can't buy or trade, flowers, bells, tools. Then go get stung by four jellyfish, that seems to be a magic number. You don't have to just sit in one spot. Apparently it has something to do with the jellyfish counting as NPCs or something and they cause your villagers to want stuff. One other tip, dig holes around your villagers so you don't have to hunt them down each time. lol
