PSA: Cataloging a Mermaid Series furniture could prohibit you from getting the DIY

how legit is this? based on this tweet, it seems that the game detects if you have a certain mermaid furniture in your catalog, then it means you had that already and therefore Pascal won’t give you the DIY

this is a disadvantage if you have asked from a person to craft it, or if you have a 2nd character and decided to store the item to their storage

That's strange considering that villagers give you repeats of DIYs. Pascal will give you repeats from what the person stated, so if you did trade, at least someone else should be able to give you DIYs from Pascal.

not gonna lie, i have thought about this regarding the clothing. because i store the items to my 2nd character & vice versa. and thought, wait maybe that will prohibit me from getting them again??? but honestly, i don’t mind not getting it as i’ll have no use for the clothing other than decor, but i think other people should be careful.
(i think) people are saying pascal doesn’t give repeats, and probably the way to avoid that was they coded it as per cataloged item. which is messy.

In the person's comment, they say, "Likewise, a player who has learned all the DIYs can get more, as long as they haven't crafted/cataloged them." So I guess if someone hasn't crafted a mermaid item and gets a repeated DIY, they may very well be able to give that one to you. I hope they fix this, though. That's pretty lame. I guess people should hold off on selling/trading Gullivarrr items just in case.

the way to debunk this isn’t true is if someone here was able to get repeat of something that’s already in their catalog. so far, i haven’t gotten repeats myself.

I'm guessing they would have to buy the diys or they would have get them using an extra character.

I know this isn't an issue with the Celeste diys because I have the moon catalog and I got that recipe from her last night.

yeah, because with celeste they check the DIYs you already have. i think the mechanics was changed for pascal because he gives out clothing, celeste only gives out DIYs

but you’d probably get the repeat of fish drying rack after he’d given everything.

so now, i wonder if they can make it that pascal could give a repeat DIY once you’ve completed all and have all in catalog then

Maybe just bad rng that you haven't gotten a duplicate fish rack yet?
