I can't see when the roulette wheel is at the 3pm position because it's spinning too fast for me to tell, lol. But I will try that tip anyway.

You know how sometimes after the wheel stops and lands on a losing position, it will reorient itself to the winning position? What causes that? Am I doing it or is it some sort of lucky feature that triggers randomly, or something else?

The wheel picking the best outcome after it stops is mostly random in my experience, although it may be more likely to happen if you get several bad outcomes in a row. The feature is probably there to provide a handicap for people who are not as good at the game, since most things in ACNL are designed to not be really challenging.

Triple Whimsy all the way!

Now some might argue that ya might get a whole day waste'd at times. Sure that could happen, but when ya look at the math it checks favorably to the team. Since the chance of a Whimsy to move at all is 66.6%, this means that total movement averages out at 4.666 spaces per day. So 4.666 move (above average) with 1 hunger (below average) and 3 sight(above average) is a rather nice stat spread. This doesn't factor one last important fact: ya have complete control of the roulette. This means in practice, yar actual chance of bein' able to move is way higher than 66.6%. Of course that's when ya get the timin' down, but that's honestly not a hard thin' to get down.

Besides great stats, that's not all that Whimsy offers great combative abilities as well! A centipede AND snake fight only has a 10% chance of failure without any equipment! That kinda carries over to bee fights too, although the rather high rate to ruin honey is still there. The only obstacle that might pose a trouble is pitfalls, so the only tool that's a near requirement is the shovel and that's it!

I honestly find Whimsy to be very broken given that ya have the roulette down, which again isn't hard to figure out.

I have two koalas amongst my amiibo cards and I never thought about timing the roulette? This is such a good idea, I will practice with Alice until I get it right. I agree, their chance to beat monsters without slingshot is better than most animals have WITH a slingshot.

This team combination has really helped me so much. I got all of the top scores with this team on Easy and I'm in the middle of doing the Intermediate levels. It's so easy now that I'm using this team, because I don't lose all that often to enemies and it feels really fast with a villager with Going the Distance.

I recommend everybody to go check out this link and use the team that they suggested!

I use Cleo, Sandy, and Rex. Both Cleo and Sandy are hearty travelers and like bananas, so whenever we get a map with bananas as the fruit on the beach, I usually get a gross surplus of food. Rex can crush rocks in the way, so he can create new paths! Only issue is that Cleo and Sandy can't see past 1 tile, and Rex only moves 3 steps.
I just don't like it where you HAVE to use amiibo cards, or you have to pay 6 playcoins in order to create a team every time. I think it's a little silly. Love Desert Island Escape, don't like the team making mechanics.
