I've been pretty surprised with how popular Apollo has been lately. I found him on an island and invited him over, but I didn't enjoy having him compared to other cranky villagers have/had. I could see the appeal of him, but I've never liked the eagle villagers.

The list of ones I actively like in the top three tiers is much shorter (Kyle, Lily, Merengue, Molly, Roald) so I'll include that. The rest are all between "actively dislike and/or find creepy" and "they're OK I guess."

I've always found Lolly and Beau to be very bland/forgettable in my opinion, especially since each has an alternate of the same species/personality type that I find to have a more memorable and unique design (Kiki and Erik respectively).
Marshal as well. Raymond, getting past all the hype, is still a very well-designed character. Marshal to me...he's just a white squirrel with an anime face pasted on. Not nearly as endearing to me personally.

Regarding the "popular" villagers, I can see why a lot of them are well-loved, but I guess the only one that is confusing to me is Judy. Obviously everyone has different preferences, but I find her appearance to be a bit too cartoony and childish for me. Still like her though, but I certainly will not go sell an arm and a leg to get her.

If I were to pick another cub instead of Judy, I'd probably prefer Pekoe, Maple or June. Just my preference!

I agree! I saw her on an island and it was an instant "no" from me. Not that I hate her by any means, but the holes don't even remind me of a real tangerine/orange. I feel like I may feel better about her if her coloring were a brighter orange with the holes being smaller and less pronounced, coming off as more of a subtle texture.

Marshal and Flurry are the two big ones that come to mind. Marshal I can kind of understand the appeal, but to me his design looks unfinished because of the lack of a nose and it distracts me too much. Flurry is even worse in this regard, she has the whole flesh-colored muzzle distinct from her white fur color and lacks a nose and it just looks incomplete and strange.

It's weird, because I can look past a lack of a nose for other villagers like Ankha or Tiffany, but probably because the ones like them that I can accept have more unique design characteristics that make them interesting and appealing regardless of it. But with Marshal and Flurry, they're too bland for me personally, so their faults are amplified. Suffice it to say that I'd probably prefer most villagers who lack noses, like most of the Cats, to have noses as part of their designs.

Another that comes to mind is Zucker. Usually I like more unique designs that stand out, but in this instance, I guess I just find the design kind of silly and dumb. I greatly prefer Octavian and Marina.

I don't know if things changed since New Leaf, and I wouldn't say I outright dislike her, but I adopted Whitney once and quickly found that I did not enjoy her and I got rid of her at the soonest possible opportunity. She looks cool from the side when you could only see one of her eyes, but from a frontal view the way they designed her eyes looked really odd.

I don't understand the huge hype/stan-ing of Sherb?
From a design point he isn't special? Just... a solid colored blue goat? Is it his pastel blue and purple house that is more "feminine" despite being a male villager? I have no idea. Goats aren't even a hugely popular villager species in the game.
I don't hate or dislike him so don't get me wrong.
Just he is such a generic design that I don't get the huge following when there is so many other generic design villagers that don't have a fraction of the same kind of attention? I know he doesn't have an amiibo while they do, but even pre-amiibo the goats didn't get much love in general like people are hyping him now. Sure, Nan the solid colored black goat has a good amount of people who like her, but nothing like this. That is why I am lost. The rest of the villagers who are "hugely popular" I can think of reasons why they are. Not Sherb though. lol

Also, I have always disliked Marshal. I have said it once. I have said it a thousand times. He reminds me of Justin Bieber. And their fans both acted in the same manner back in the day. lol

Meee tooo but with Apollo! Personally I like him because he has a very simple appearance and an acceptable color palette. He's one of the rare instances where his design is "less is more" and not "over the top" compared to other eagles (I like all of the eagles but can understand why people might not like them). Not only that, but it's also due to his appearance in the Animal Crossing movie as well!

Coco looks really creepy. I'm kind of surprised she even is popular? Guess that's part of her charm. Personally would only invite her to my island to sell her.

Dom is meh. His design is nice but he's only for people who want a jock that don't like jocks lmao.

Any of the octopus, they just don't appeal to me. Judy, Pietro, and Stitches. I actually passed on Judy on an island because I didn't want to wait a month to sell her because I don't time travel.

hhhng besides raymond, i don’t really care for judy. she has a nice colour palette but i don’t like her all that much lol - i don’t hate her or anything and wouldn’t be angry if she randomly moved in but there’s other bear cubs and snooties that i like more aha

Sherb and Stitches I hardly care for I had both in my town and ended up booting them both for other lazy villagers such as Zucker and Filbert
