It's definitely harder than Gates to Infinity was. Heck, I'm chapter 4 or 5 now and I STILL haven't formed my rescue team. Just going to school to learn how to play... and being treated like I'm a child... because I'm a Riolu... BITE ME PRINCIPAL SIMIPOUR!
edit: And if you don't like the pokemon it picks for you after the quiz, you can just say no and pick the ones you want. Game tried to give me Bulbasaur and Torchic. AND I HATE THAT BIRD WITH A PASSION. Bulbasaur would have been good, but I wanted Riolu. Mega Lucario ftw.

I have been playing the Japanese version and I'm about 20, 25 hours in. I usually have no patience for RPGs or rogue-likes, but it's a really great game! It does have some pacing issues, but the story is getting really good and interesting. It starts you off pretty easily, but in higher level dungeons and later chapter dungeons, it can get pretty challenging. Have fun with it tomorrow!

I've been playing the heck out of it. I'm a charmander and my partner is a chikorita. Having a blast with the adorable storyline! I just kind of wish there was a zoom function so I could see enemies on the edge of the screen better...

I got mudkip as my player and chose charmander for my partner. I just got to the part where I can recruit pokemon. I feel like I'm going to have to use up all my revive seeds trying to beat salamence. I've only played the first mystery dungeon (blue) since starting this one.

i got it and i love it so far! and god, one thing i love about this game is that you can get an OP level 50 salamence and dragonite to be your team mates at such an early part of the game O.O and also victini. my character is chimchar and my partner is chikorita.

i defeated salamence without reviver seeds at all. i just hurled a lot of slumber stick (whatever you call that) on it and just spam alliance attack and continued to spam the stick when salamence wakes up.

Oh thanks for the tip! My item hoarding is my downfall. I just like to keep everything locked away in the deposit box except for a few Oran berries and revive seeds.

Well.. I've finished the game now.
All I'll say is the ending is absolutely heart wrenching again. Quite possibly even more heart wrenching than when we saw Grovyle and Celebi die.
I was also way off on my guess about some aspects of the story(again, I'm not saying what as I don't want to spoil anything for those still playing/wanting to play)

I want to get this game for Christmas, so I'm avoiding spoilers as best I can.
I just have one question, How is it? I loved Red Rescue Team and Explorers of Darkness/Sky, but I tried the demo of Gates to Infinity and it didn't seem as fun. Is this game better than GtI?

it is. in my opinion, its the best PMD game of all the games I've played. the storyline is pretty long compared to others and the plot twists are unexpecting. you never know when your allies may turn into your enemies. making new pokemons join your team are much easier.
i dont really have a knack for describing stuff but I just wanna say GET IT!as a person who expect a lot from a game, i can say that you will not regret it, I promise. but just one tip: hoard as many reviver seeds as possible. do not use them on normal dungeons. only on bosses as they pack a bunch of difficulty in them especially the last 3 bosses. I had to restart the whole game just because the amount of reviver seeds i had during the last my last boss fight was not enough. there were no other ways to get them except for restarting.

Nah, but seriously bruh, Red & Blue are the BEST PMD games! Only reason I restarted Red was because the legendaries wouldn't unlock no matter what... Even when I'd finished Smeargle's request. The plot was HEARTWRENCHING, especially for my smol child self. And now, hearing that Super's plot is the same way...

Anyone else play the Mystery Dungeon games? I apparently dodged a bullet by not playing Gates to Infinity, but I've been replaying my old DS versions and I got this one as a Christmas gift.
So far, I'm liking it. And I'm glad they brought back the quiz to pick your 'mon (and they also give you the option to just pick whichever one you want). They've added a lot of little details and new battle mechanics, at least compared to the ones I've already played. No idea how much of it was already introduced in Gates.
Anyone else play these games? And if so, have you picked up this one yet? What do you think?
