Plot resetting with new update?

So I've read somewhere that villagers can no longer move on top of paths with the new update (therefore you can control where they plot). Is this true? I recently got Hamlet from someone so I placed basic patterns all over my town to get where he needs to move but it isn't working for me. I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrong or if it was never included in the update. Has anyone tried it out yet? Was it successful?

Did you leave a 3x4 space open? or was it just 3x3? you have to leave a row open for the doorway, otherwise, they'll move wherever they want, like before the update

Quite a few people are vouching for it all over, so I guessing it is confirmed, as long as there is adequate space they'll plot in the space you make for them, if your town is all path and no adequate space they can plot anywhere.

I had them move straight into plots where the last villagers moved out of. Also had them move into the one single open space I have in my town, nobody as yet has moved on to my paths

I can also confirm that plot resetting works.
I noticed that Francine was about to build her home in the same spot which my yellow bench was.

So, I quitted without saving and later her house was about to be made in the same spot which Chadder's home was.
