So I finished watching the first round of Mouse Madness. Here are my thoughts:
  • It was no surprise that Lion King would win the first round. It was a popular movie back when it was released, and it’s still popular today. But the movie it went against, Home on the Range, was widely considered to be Disney’s worst movie, so there was no challenge.
  • It was also not surprising to see The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin win the first round, though The Little Mermaid not getting a #1 seed seemed rather surprising since it was one of the four big hits.
  • Another thing that doesn’t surprise me was how poorly Wish fared among the polls. Aside to being pitted against one of the four big hits of the Disney Renaissance, it was the only movie to get less than 10 votes, on a poll that had over 400 votes. That tells me that people really hate that movie.
  • The two biggest shockers for me were that both Frozen and Alice in Wonderland lost. Frozen, being one of Disney’s biggest hits, lost to Meet the Robinsons, one of Disney’s weaker attempts from the 2000’s. It may have been more popular than The Lion King at one point, but it lost the first round. Regarding Alice in Wonderland, while it wasn’t a super popular movie, the fact it lost to a Dark Era film The Great Mouse Detective (which was no more popular than Alice) was surprising.
