So yea... I've been TT'ing for almost a week irl back to the spawn time of this thing. Not once have I seen it anywhere and it's the last bug before I can finally complete my Bug Collection. Can anybody help me out with finding one?
It's a very rare insect, so my best suggestion is to just play like normal and always make sure to carry a net around. I'm sure it will show up eventually.
If you want to take drastic measures, cutting down trees would increase its spawn rate as other insects are unable to spawn on them. That may be fairly time consuming though.
I found mine on July, in the evening, by the lake.
I find a lot of dragonflies tend hang around bodies of water, like ponds and rivers, I wouldn't sarch in the ocean side though, as once it's flying away from you, you won't be able to find it again.
The petaltail dragonfly was actually the last bug I caught in my main town. It was a pain to find. In fact I found it in a friend's town, not even my own. Like above posters said, i feel like I see them more often around the river. Less trees also help. It should come around sometime but don't lose hope!
These dragonflies for some reason are more likely to spawn during multiplayer, so if you have any friends, try inviting them over to your town or going over to theirs.
I can confirm this btw. Myself and others have noticed them spawning more frequently during multiplayer.
