Perfectionism taking its toll...

I've reset over 1,000 times in the last week for a decent town layout + defaults to start a one year challenge. I don't even want to calculate the number of hours I've spent on this.

Anyway, I finally got a layout that I'm pretty pleased with. I got my favorite color train station and town hall, and I even got the star snow I wanted. The only problem is my villagers. They're insufferable. Walt, the cranky kangaroo; and even worse, Rodeo, the lazy bull with beady little red eyes. I feel like he's infusing me with dark magic every time I talk to him. Caroline, Hamlet, and Anicotti are the other villagers I got.

Honestly, I think I'm going to try and play the game now... but the "what ifs" are already haunting me. I'm just such a perfectionist... that's what got me into this whole resetting business in the first place! Does anyone else face similar issues when they're trying to play this game? How did you get past it?

If anyone's curious, here's my town map. Let me know what you think.

I think Hamlet is awesome, one of the best jocks period, and Walt is pretty cute. Don't worry about being perfect, because things won't ever be perfect, and if that's the mindset you have then you're kind of setting yourself up to fail because eventually down the road, something won't be *as perfect* as it could be. Just play and have fun. I think you have a lovely map. I love how your town plaza is centered. : ) - and you have a sweet spot for your house!

Villagers come and go. I wouldn't worry too much about how bad the villagers are. You might come to like them, or the move-ins you get will be good. I started off with my first 9 being really terrible, but when they started moving out, I got good ones. Caroline and Hamlet are cute, btw, and Rodeo is popular with some people. c:

I hate the placement my villagers choose. They're pretty much all in the bottom corner (five of them in a row x___x) and there are areas of my map just DYING for houses so I can decorate.. I like the challenge of making weird house placements look nice, though. I find that towns that have patterns everywhere and the villagers are all in neat, organized, planned places look kind of stale, even though they're so neat.

I reset for Stitches for 8 hours because I didn't want triangle grass and I wanted cherries or apples as my town fruit. Eventually, I started and I saw Stitches, but I live with triangle grass and pears. Unless you want to spend a really long time resetting so that absolutely everything is perfect, there's going to have to be some stuff you give up to have nicer things.

The layout is the most important part of the map, and since you like yours and got good colors for your station and town hall, don't reset anymore. The villagers will leave and you'll get better ones eventually. c:

I would say just start playing. The map and snow pattern etc. are things that you can't change in the long run. Well, not without resetting. Whereas villagers, you can try to get new ones as they move out one by one. When I started, I didn't like any of my original 9. Not one. It's been a long journey, but it's been really fun trying to get the ones I want.

I think your map is fine and your villagers aren't a problem when they can move out.. I don't get this whole "I must reset and get a perfect town" D;

Just start playing and hope you get some nice villagers moving in. c:

I personally think that your town map is too symmetrical. The plaza is perfectly centered and the river is too perfect-looking. I'm so OCD about things like this. I hate when things look too orderly, or unnaturally even. Like when people plant their trees in perfect rows it makes me want to strangle someone.

Anyway, I'm a perfectionist too, and a game like Animal Crossing just might make you go crazy because you really can't control everything, that's not what the game is about. Just let things happen...

As long as you like your layout, I'd start. I don't think I'd restart for a town with every villager I like in it.

I've heard that this layout is difficult on account for limited PWP space. Ugh. This just may make me continue on my long journey of resetting :(

The Layout is lovely <3

I think villagers can always be shifted but layout cannot. So if you're planning something important to do in your town I think you should pick the right layout first. Train station can be renovated so it's alright as well.

Your villagers are not bad either! Caroline and Hamlet are adorable <3

I hope you make the perfect town!!

I'm a bit of a perfectionist too, so don't worry. c: I always want my towns to be perfect, but now I know that none of them really would be. Sure, some can come close, but I don't think there's anyone who has started with a completely perfect town.
Okay, more about your town - the layout is pretty good! It might be slightly hard for Public Works Projects, like you mentioned, but I'm sure it'll work out. Your villagers aren't bad either. Hamlet and Caroline are awesome, along with Walt - chances are, you'll come to love all of your villagers.
I honestly think you should keep this town! ^u^

I think you should play the game, even if you have horrid villagers.
They can always be replaced, right?
Also, I don't think it is worth it to spend more hours resetting your layout while you hava a great one here...
Just my two cents...

I think your town is fine. The villagers will move out eventually anyways, so it shouldn't be that bad.

I think that layout looks awesome! And I feel like one of the purposes of the animal crossing games is to meet new villagers and experience the reality of people coming and going. Maybe you could try getting ALL the villagers at some point. Iunno. c:

I didn't obsess over the layout when I first got my town, but I regret that. However, the possibility of a town being completely perfect is very, very low, and would take a lot of time, so I think you should keep it. The layout is quite nice.

It's not so bad to start off with less desirable villagers. What if you got multiple dream neighbors as your original neighbors, and their houses were in bad places, so you'd have to let them go? And then possibly cycle through 16 villagers if you want them back D:
My starting villagers weren't that fantastic either, and they were in bad places as well. But they moved out eventually, and there are many online resources like TBT and other sites, where you can find your dream neighbors and replace your old neighbors over time. And you'll be able to use the reset trick on their houses, if you like.

As for the map, it might be difficult for extremely large-scale landscaping, and if you want to build tons of large PWPs. However, if you have a vision for your town, and already have areas planned out in your head of what goes where, I'm sure you could make it work! I was sort of the same way. My town has a winding river, which is often seemed as a bad thing, but I have plans for all the areas of my town and I think it should come out fine.

i guess i'm in no position to comment since i settled on whatever layout, color of train station, and villagers happened to exist the first time i loaded the game.

this is my town:

i also don't stress over where villagers decide to plop their house. i respect and allow all villagers decision to move out, and will not hold anyone captive.

in other words, i am your worst nightmare, your nemesis, lol.

As long as you like your town, villagers come and go. I started a town with not one of my dreamies. I'm resetting for their plots and I couldn't be happier, do what makes you happy :)

I didn`t have "dreamies" when I started playing, so for me it was easy, didn`t even stop to think I could reset to get a better map. Hell, I didn`t even know there were more maps available then the ones offered. In the end perfection is something to aim for, but never to reach. So work hard to make it truly YOUR dreamtown. Villagers don`t matter in that sense, that when you spend more time with them, they all become more three dimensional.I had no idea trainstations came in colours and there were types of grass when I started and it never bothered me.

Go play and enjoy it, in the end every map can be turned into a lovely village. Have fun. :)

As someone who had that map and reset despite having every villager I wanted (except Zucker, so same situation I'm in now really) don't keep it. It's terrible for PWP and even with three bridges the river is soooo annoying to run around. It looks pretty but it's actually a really terrible map in gameplay terms. I know you've spent a lot of time resetting but after dumping that map (along with a billion bells, heaps of badges and upgrades, 9/10 awesome villagers) I was SO much happier. I've completely stopped TTing and get so much more enjoyment out of the game now - I have oranges (I hated oranges) and I can't even remember what shape my grass is because I like pottering around and doing things in the game now!
