Yeah I reset 2 developed towns for this final one that I will make sure to keep. For my current town I reset for 4 hours I'd say? Not nearly as long as you, but I wanted something really specific to make sure I wouldn't ditch this town again. I wanted square grass (for star snow), cherries/peaches/apples as the town fruit, and a vertical waterfall with space for my house by the top waterfall (some had rocks in the darn way). And I got exactly what I wanted, it was so worth it.
But seriously, I have a really hard time playing acnl, especially with permanent PWP placements. It took me a month to place my campsite (and now I regret it's spot... sigh) and another month to place my cafe. I just built it today. Also plot resetting is such a chore, but I'm really pleased with how some of my villagers are lined up. But honestly if you hate your town due to its layout, I'd say reset, villagers can change but your layout can't.
