Opinions: Community changing

Absolutely true! The game was released in the Summer and the Island bugs like the Golden Stag was worth like 10G if I remember. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the economy. In fact, I spent hours with friends on the island catching bugs, chilling to that wonderful island song :)
The song was terrible/repetitive and I'm so glad it's gone. I'm very sorry that it's gone for you but honestly, your lose is a win to millions of people like myself.

Ok so you'd rather go to an island to catch bugs instead of going to an island to catch bugs?

NOOO you know what i mean.. beetle farming is no question easier and more certain. there are islands now that won't even spawn tarantulas (one of them being trash islands) and it takes time to completely remove everything from an island before you actually farm tarantulas and it's still not as often. and STILL at the end of the day you won't earn as much as beetles/stags/shark farming unless flick is on your island.

Hmm I think you see what you look for, in this case.

Perfect example- I had a trade set up for Audie earlier this week with someone on this site. I TTed for hours to open up a plot and get the ball rolling, only to have the person completely ghost me and leave me with wasted time and an empty plot I had to race to fill.
But then, I happened to run into a complete stranger on the internet the next day who gifted her to me essentially for free, just to see her go to a good home. 😭

People can be cutthroat and look out only for themselves, sure. Especially as the number of players grows.
But I do believe there's still good people out there as well who are looking to enjoy this game and contribute to elevating the experience for others at the same time. You just have to be careful with who you trust, and be willing to look for the good eggs.

The community, as a whole, has grown so much. I wouldn't be surprised if there are triple or even more players than played NL already. With the number of new players, it can only be expected. This game also brings a lot of new changes, and Nintendo has unfortunately made a few screw-ups over the past month that have changed how people play.

It will take a while for things to calm down, but there are going to be a lot of aspects of the game and the community that we're just going to have to adjust to.

You can just save your bugs for flick. Doesn't really matter anyways considering both NL beetle islands and NH tarantula islands are just exploits for players that want easy money. Similar to the TTers cheaters, I'd say this game has the most impatient crowd of any animal crossing game

That's fair. I am not going into battle mode over a song. You can have the W.
That's very respectful, thank you for understanding :)

The game is being shared everywhere on socials by big influencers. Marketing at its best.

if it's your opinion then ok. but for me beetle island is not an exploit like tarantulas. the basket was there for a reason. if no one found out the tarantula trick (or d*pe glitch) we'd all be poor.

Is just ocean fishing, money trees, turnips, hot items, online item trading, etc etc, too slow for you? I can make around 30-50k from around 20m fishing and around 3m every week from stalks. Im definitely getting by quite swimmingly without tarantula farming

Also might add that adding money into the system only increase the money expected. If everyone was dirt poor then prices would also be lower. The bell rate is the same no matter what. Tarantulas and duping only inflates the market forcing legit players to dabble inorder to make deals. The market/community would be booming rn if not for all the inflation going on and we have island exploits/TT cheaters to thank for that

it's not slow, i'm just lazy and i don't have time to always trade online (you have to schedule it and time zone is a factor) also i avoid visiting non-friends because of the adoption glitch and my island is not full. i got lucky this week with my turnip prices though, but pretty sure it won't happen all the time. i'm good with my bells for now, but with the market prices going on for 20m per 1 villager, it pales in comparison.

Tortimer island was fantastic, also having the storage there.

What a massive loss.

NH needs something like that.
Not these random junk islands that cost 2000 for a NMT to get to one.

Give me Kapp'n back. Complete with family, so I have an enjoyable place to travel to, at a mere cost of $1000 BELLS (the true AC currency), where I can relax, and farm to my heart's content, and where it doesn't feel like a neverending grind.

Why can't you relax on your own island/ make a relaxing place on your island for free?

I just feel like there's just more people playing and thus more people joining AC communities. So, of course you're going to bring in some greedy people, that's just the nature of online communities.

I've only traded with other people a handful of times, and I'm too lazy to play the stalk market, so I can't really say I've run into anyone who's demanded an excessive number of bells or NMTs. But I would just not trade with them if they did.

Agreed, the economy should go back to normal if people stop allowing greedy people to profit. Chances are it'll fix itself out in due time

There are some great micro communities flourishing around just plain friendliness and generosity. But these are often split off into new discord servers etc, while the usual community centres have gotten a little more "transactional" shall we say.

I think the friendly community is still there its just the popularity and noise atm gives rise to it seemly feeling very all about dem bells and nmt's.

The game is also so new for such a strong community. Not even a month old. Its the gold rush phase. However as its non a competitive game over time I feel more of the commercial driven players will move on leaving players who care more about the laid back vibe.

Its all good and there is so much positivity to look forward to.

I haven’t traded much yet apart from my immediate group of friends because I’m broke in-game .

Some asks are incredibly high and I have heard some toxic stories. Thankfully I haven’t experienced much of it yet.

I am happy to see a few that ARE sharing kindness / fairness. Gives
me hope for when I start trading/buying/giving away beyond my immediate friend group.

Can anyone tell a newbie exactly how to share your catalogue in the most efficient way? I'm guessing spread the items out outside, and then everyone picks them up/drops them again for the next person?

I started playing AC in 2016, a few months before New Leaf's "Welcome Amiibo" update came out.

I became curious about the game while reading a long and thriving thread about NL on a general gaming forum where I used to post regularly. There, even before I touched the game, I was presented to how the game worked, it's social aspect and how the community played together. That aspect alone made me want to buy the game. Mind you, I was always very competitive when it comes to video games, as I grew up playing fighting games in the arcades (still play today, but at home). Even then, I always liked to help others, and this is why I connected so easily with Animal Crossing. It's ethos resonates with me.

I'm kind of a nerd when It comes to games' history, so I took my time to learn about the series before I got my copy of NL. Reading about it's story and how the game was conceived just made me feel sure that AC was for me. But I know that most people wouldn't bother doing something like that. Most of the new players also didn't have any contact with the previous statement of AC's fanbase before getting NH. But I don't feel like it's ONLY the newer players who are responsible for this shift. A lot of people who have been playing the series for a long time also changed the way the play.

The community isn't as receptive and inviting as it once was. A lot of people already said much of what I would say, so there's no need for me to repeat their words.

Mind you, there's still a good number of people out there who actually sees and plays AC as a community game - the way the game was conceived to be played, that is. We've seen, here on TBT, a few people trying to start a movement to basically save the original aspect of the game. We refused to join the "new" player's mentality and we've been trying to gather people to play in a more friendly way, as AC was played before NH.

@Mairen started a thread (already cited on the first page of this thread) to make it easier for those of us to help each other. @solace was also very kind, and we spent some time playing together, helping each other and having fun with the game as it was meant to be played.

We're now in the minority, and it's up to us to reach other like-minded people out to play the game together, avoiding the whole mess that AC's community has become.
