Opinion on hacking?

I think hacking makes the game less fun as you can easily get items/villagers/flowers etc with a click of a button. However, when you play the game normally you have a sense of achievement once you get the stuff you want without hacking, Although hacked towns are great to visit, having a hacked town makes the game more boring as there would be nothing to do.

I would never do it because I think it would ruin the fun, and I have more admiration for people who play the way the game was intended to be played.

I don’t hack. Never have, never will. I have no opinion about other people hacking either.

However, hacked towns can be beautiful and also disappointing to visit via dream. It’s pretty disheartening to realize I would never be able to create something similar without cheating. I really appreciate non-hacked dream towns because I know how much planning and resources are required.

People can do what they will with their games.
I also enjoy visiting hacked dream towns. It's very hard to make your town look that nice!

personally, i've never had the urge to hack my town + i feel like i wouldn't get the same satisfaction if i just use some program to design my town instead of doing the work myself in game

If you like how it looks, do it.
If you don't, then don't do it.

How you play is your own business.
I think you can do many cool things with hacking, like putting trees and flowers in places they can't be normally.

I think hacked towns are cool. And people who get all uppity about hackers because it's "not how the game was intended to be played" or whatever are likely hypocritical if they time travel.
I considered hacking, but it just seemed like too much work for me personally, and my husband has a lot of anxiety to do with tech stuff so I wouldn't want to trigger him.

Yes, time travel is cheating, but it's a-okay cheating as it's involved in the original game system design. I'm assuming it's the feature they added so you can enjoy playing the game without worrying about real life events/schedule that could get in.

In my case, considering the hack a-no is based on the thought that it's an infringement to their creative work, those who developed the game. Designing the game system is creative work, and it needs putting in so much time, efforts(actually for years even) and repeating the trial. The system design(restrictions etc.) it has is the final product - what they decided it to have. And they're saying please don't change the system/game design(hack).

Every time I join this discussion, I try to find an understandable opinion, that'd make me understand as to why you deem hack is a-okay, but all I find there is always just "you do you" kind of logic. If anyone who agrees to modding the system could explain why it is good why it isn't disrespectful, to the people who actually developed it, it'd be so helpful though...

hacking to obtain items you wouldn't normally be able to or something while keeping the game otherwise intact is a far cry different from hacking to remove drm safeguards preventing emulation or otherwise steal content though

like no **** is the latter bad (though I also can hardly care about that once the game reaches a certain age. maybe I'll be more inclined to when the games industry learns how to do proper publicly available archiving of its past works), as it can actually affect creators

also reasons for hacking can vary from having gotten all they could've out of normal play, so they turned to hacking to expand their scope to literally not having the time to play normally, and so hacking is a means for them to get enjoyment out of with that limited timeframe they can play

now there's subsets of hacking that *can* bother me, such as people who hack acting as if they're playing legit, but that's anther matter entirely

As long as a hacker isn't going about harming other people then it's all fine as far as I'm concerned. I don't personally do any hacking in any games, but if someone finds enjoyment in it and, again, isn't hurting anyone else through their actions, then it's really of no concern to me.

It takes the fun out of it and you don?t get the sense of achievement when you finally get something you have been waiting for.
This goes for any game.

I see hacks in New Leaf the almost the same way I see mods in any PC game. It's changing the game to make it more enjoyable for you. Developers don't find mods disrespectful. I think they'd rather people play the game the way they want, rather than not play at all. As long as the hacks aren't invasive or disruptive to other players, I think that the devs are happy that their game is so well loved. That's how I see it anyway. Hopefully that's a good alternate perspective for you. (Btw, I'm not a hacker)

If the game allows it throu natrual gameplay, it's not cheating. Time traveling isn't cheating, I'm not doing anythin that the game wouldn't normally allow me to do.

I wouldn’t do it myself personally as I prefer playing the game the way it was created (same goes for time travelling) but I have no issue with others doing it so long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else. I really like visiting hacked dream towns as some of them are really creative and interesting!

As long as there’s transparency involved if they’re say, trying to trade items (honestly, it may be since I got into ACNL late, but any hackers I’ve encountered just give things away) or the like, I honestly have no issue with it. I kinda want to learn it myself one day- I’d love making custom villagers, or playing with landscaping that /should/ technically be possible but the game refuses for whatever reason xD

Hacking in any game always seems so tempting and attractive, but I'm swearing off it now. I remade my main town after learning some of my items were hacked, it just felt so dirty. I have no issue with creative use, but it's such a downer for towns you're working on from scratch.

I worked hard on my town for 9 months and then hacked it at the very end to add additional flowers and cedar trees. It was fun, but it made me lose my interest in the game because I had everything. It is definitely very creative and beautiful!

To each their own. I used to use Action Replay back in the WW days, and while it was nothing to the extent that we're seeing today, there were still a lot of people who frowned upon it. I had a friend who went a step further and would seed his town. It looked pretty cool!

It's only really a problem if it's used in a malicious way, imo.
