Okay, so I'm cycling for Blanche. Currently I have only 8 villagers and I have been time traveling to get a villager to plot as my ninth. I stopped today because I found Diana (eeee dreamie!) in my camp.

Once I stepped out of my house this morning though, Ankha pinged me first thing and asked to move out. I let her because I'm looking to trade her for Marshal. BUT ANYWAY THAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM

I only have 8 villagers.
Including Ankha. I thought villagers don't move out if there are less than 9 villagers, and I have only 8. Well, there's 9 if you include the camper, but it's not like the camper has moved in yet.

Almost the same thing happened to Roald earlier. Ankha has just moved in as a 9th (she hasn't unpacked her boxes), and the first thing that morning was Roald pinging to move out. I thought villagers only try to move out some days after someone moves in?? Not like literally on the day they move in?

What's going on??? D: Can anyone explain stuff to me??? Have I been looking at the wrong guides?? Guides I've read have said that no villagers will try to move out when there are only 8, and that villagers won't try to move out a few days after someone just moved in. HELP??

TL;DR version:
  • I have only 8 villagers
  • But Ankha pinged to move out anyway
  • wut

Yesterday, Monique plotted in my cycling town and Fang asked to move out at the same time (I still only had 8 villagers at the time as Monique wasn't there physically besides her plot). So in your case, Diana in the campsite would count as the 9th villager - I think.
I suppose the game has a way of knowing that you asked Diana in and by the time Ankha leaves, you'd have had 9 villagers in your town. At least that's the only thing that makes sense to me.

On a similar note, I have 10 villagers in my main town, but when I was getting Zucker and he was unpacking, Tangy asked to move out. I was quite surprised as I remembered reading guides which specifically stated that the game gives you a "grace period" of about four days when someone new moves into town so you don't have to worry about your current villagers moving out. However, this does not appear to be correct and I think that all the TT'ing guides that state that villagers only ask to move out once the new villager has settled into town are flawed.

Oh wow. Okay, so I'm not the only one who experienced this. Worst case scenario I thought of was that my game was glitched or something.

Also, because of this I am now cautious of every guide that mentions grace periods and such. That's like most of the guides out there. I trusted them because they mostly had the same information in them, only with different methods.

We really need more information about this, gah. It's so scary to think I might lose my Tangy because I happen to be ignorant of this type of thing happening. D; I've actually been TTing days after a villager moved in to speed up my cycling, but now that seems really dangerous.

Thank you for responding! I'm gonna go search and compare guides I've read and see for myself, I guess. ; A;

No problem. :)
I don't mean any disrespect to the people who put together these guides - I know that they're only trying to help.
But after all, they're just written by people like you and me who have based their assumptions on their personal experiences with the game. In other words, I wouldn't just take them at face value.
The only thing that I stick to if I ever TT is going day-by-day and reloading the game several times to catch everyone outside. This seems to be the safest option.
