Nintendo Switch now the top selling Nintendo console

After the investor relations update, we have seen that the Nintendo Switch outsold the Nintendo DS, which previously held the record as the top-selling Nintendo platform, at 154 million units. Now the Nintendo Switch surpassed it, at 155 million units.

At the same time, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold a total of 70 million copies, which is more than how many NES units have sold.

I just don't see how Nintendo can ever go away from the "Switch" gimmick in their future consoles.

They could because Nintendo is Nintendo and makes weird decisions all the time. But it's such a no-brainer to have the versatility.

Yeah, given how fast the Switch 2 sold. The only reason why the original Switch didn’t sell this fast is because the Wii U failed so hard that it hurt Nintendo’s supply.

I think you answered your own question! Nintendo does whatever they want regardless of what the fans want. It wouldn't surprise me if they come up with something new that flops after the Switch 2, and then years from now they hit again with something else. Its just what Nintendo does.

I actually kind of enjoy that about Nintendo though. This behavior has been going on since at least the Power Glove for NES. Probably earlier, but thats my first time experiencing it. The hype was huge, and the Power Glove was horrible. But it is still occasionally featured in retro movies. Even the failed attempt at something cool, has lasted in people's memories.
