To be honest, I expected more out of Switch Lite. The promotion video was basically about what features were removed and the price aspect. And I'm somewhat confused with the way they talked about handheld mode - I thought all Switch games support handheld mode? I hope that the addition of Lite will not change the availability of handheld mode for basic Switch because that's how I play all games. : c
Switch Lite seems like a nice option, but I'd encourage everyone to get the basic Switch if you still haven't gotten it. To me it feels like a perfect "level up" of 3DS design. Joycons are extremely fun to hold, dock-station is useful and it's nice to be able to switch from handheld mode to TV for some games. Like Super Mario Odyssey - it's fun regardless of how you play it but it was easier for me to complete some stages in TV mode, just because you can see more and it plays a bit more stable.
HD Rumble is very nice, too as it adds a level of immersion with some games. My memory is bad, but I'm pretty sure Zelda uses HD Rumble in a fun way.
I'm not sure if Switch Lite will be able to provide the same level of comfort, is all I'm saying. It feels like Lite is made mostly for Japanese people who play games outside very often (on public transport, at a friend's house etc.) and I can see that it will be very popular there - I'm personally a bit scared of taking Switch outside due to the size but I play on handheld mode at home all the time. It's just so much better to be able to lay down, walk around, put Switch on the table and detach joycons, connect it to TV... so many options! But taking it outside makes me a bit worried - Lite seems perfect for that.
So, it's up to you, guys. I'd really advise you to go to your local Gamestop or ask if any of your friends have Switch, and just try it for yourself. :3
I won't be getting one, but I see the appeal of them.
The probablem I forsee is that I lot of claims about joycons breaking. Personally, my joycons are the ONLY controllers I've HAD to replace in 28 years of gaming, so I do believe the claims and that the Joycons are terrible...If they're integrted into the controller though, you can't replace them at all.
It would have also been nice if they provided a way for it to connect to a dock even if it wasn't sold with the unit. I say this because it might give them an incentive to make sold seperately docks more easily availible for those who want one rather than having to pay a fortune for an offical one (seeing as third party ones risk bricking the system).
That's strange. : o I've talked to a lot of people on dedicated gaming forums and I've never heard of Joy-Cons breaking. And honestly, don't believe people who claim that Joy-Cons are bad - the only claims of Switch and/or JC being bad were from toxic people who would allow themselves to say something like "Switch is not a console!!! It can't run games in 4k and super-sampling. Anyone who owns Switch is..." kind of thing. It's the usual Internet wars where they just want to find some way of making other people feel bad. Or like some insecure people who would bash Switch for having the toy feeling. =/
As someone who purchased Switch a year ago and played quite a few games (I actually finished Zelda in handheld) - I have not had a single issue with joy-cons. They are sturdy, they hold the charge very nicely and I don't see them breaking unless you're being very rough.
If anything, PS4 is the one that has a poorly made controller. I've had PS4 Slim but the controller had some issue with the left stick... not sure why because I was careful. But I replaced it with a different color Dualshock 4 and it works just fine.
