We can order them from game, but they treat their international customers awfully and canceled my order.and I know others have had trouble with them as well. The only other option would be to buy them on ebay at an over-inflated price.
I feel bad, since we can get the tree from the community here but you can only get the cards at an ridiculous price, I wish you could get the cards some way and not get ripped off, hopefully in the future Nintendo will sell them in U.S

Thank you. I mean, we can get the items through people in the community nice enough to let us visit and order items from the rv's, but I'd rather have the cards, as I want some to move in. Hopefully though we will get them at some point, and eu will get the white Christmas tree as well, then we'll be even! Also, I hate it when people try to sell virtual items for real money, I'm pretty sure it's not legal either.

I can't even open my town right now which is weird, I hate it too, like they just might steal your money, I don't think its legal either.

It's legal, it's just frowned upon--- however, I can almost guarantee that the people selling mass items like that are ones that have hacked the game :/ This is morally questionable... Still generally legal in the US I believe, but... questionable. Nintendo is doing what they can to stop things like that, but there's a lot of this activity. There are full businesses dedicated to generating digital content for game players, usually in MMO games, it's usually the responsibility of the game's company to regulate these activities.
I wouldn't be in-favor of the behavior personally, but they're technically just charging a few dollars for the use of an acquired skill--- if a ton of in-game items are worth $3 extra to you, I can see where it would be appealing. Like if you bought the game for $15 used then spent $3 to have a head-start, you'd still be paying less than you would for a new copy of the game and you'd essentially be paying someone to hack for you. (I don't think anyone could convince me that these sellers got their items through legitimate means, the sales are almost always immediately re-listed, and unless your whole life is collecting animal crossing items so that people will sometimes pay you $3.... nah.)
It's just morally "messy". :/

Being on a different date has never been an issue for receiving DLC, spotpass, Nintendo Zone (when we had it).
Is it the same now given its acnl-WA? - I don't know, I hope it is - that is, the date you are on should not affect getting current DLC/spotpass.
Its outside of the game, coming via Nintendo servers.
Ingame events - yes you have to be on the actual ingame date (eg naughty & nice day etc).
I am not on the correct date, haven't had the spotpass (Christmas tree + coupons), but I'm in the UK. Europe hasn't received this (yet, hopefully we will).
A US player should be able to confirm that the date your game is set on does not affect receiving item.
Edit: just in case, sorry guess you know this, no offense intended: you do have to have spotpass activated, & connect to the internet, (I tend to put console in sleep mode & give it a few mins by my router).

(USA player over here) Maybe I'm just crazy, but the white christmas tree event seems to be locked onto today, December 16th, 2016. It's Dec.10th 2016 in Starview and I still didn't get it on either of my two characters, even after TT'ing forward from Dec. 9th 2016. Mailbox is empty for them too. And Spotpass is active.
Meanwhile in Cyclone, it was Feb 2017. Loaded up my mayor, still didn't get it. I time traveled backward to today, loaded up again. Pete showed up with the Meow Coupons, and so did the mail with the white tree from Nintendo. Mailbox empty, Spotpass active.
Coincidence? I think not.

That's odd. I don't tt, and I logged in today and didn't get anything. I wonder if it has something to do with me only just now turning on spotpass?

Like I said, maybe I'm just crazy and it has something to do with Spotpass(it's active on both towns). But I still think it's date-locked.. I TT'd forward to 12/11/16 and again to 12/12/16, still nothing. >.<

Hmmm... Do you think that tomorrow if I TTed backwards a day, I could obtain the Meow Coupons again?... Infinite Meow Coupons; If my theory actual works, that is.
