Im currently in the process of moving in a new townie. I have a problem in that they ALWAYS want to go right in front of my house! They will 9 out of 10 times put themselves just in line with the front door and only a couple of spaces away. I have loads of spare spaces all over the top 1/2 of my town but they still put themselves RIGHT in front of my door :( (there is only one house on the top half and it is right on the river lol!)

Anyway, does anyone else have this problem? I want to put in a public works, but I have no idea what would look appropriate for right in front of a house. How did you solve the problem?

For right in front of your house I'd put a fountain, the flower clock, or an arch of some kind would look nice.

I might of misunderstood but, I thought PWPs could be removed if a villager moved into their spot? I have been paranoid about that and cramming all my PWPs into spots that hopefully villagers wouldn't be able to move into for space reasons.

It's been my experience that villagers like to place their homes next to existing buildings. They will, eventually, pick a different place as long as you have room.

Not villager homes, no, but other playable characters can smash them, yes.

Just do the villager reset trick and you can reset them into a spot you like :)

You can do the plot reset trick where you start a new game file on each new day (each time you start a new save file as long as you don't save you can find the plot and if you don't like that plot placement you can close the game and make a new save file again until you find a spot that you like) until you are at 9 villagers. :D

A simple lamp-post would keep them off your doorstep and won't look ridiculous, how about that? I've got a lamp in my foresty bit protecting my blue roses as people love to land in the middle of that area for some reason. Now they can't - Pango was the last one to try it but had to land off to one side, har har.

Animal villagers can't move on top of PWPs.
I put some wherever I don't want them to go, like right in front of other buildings.
I put a hot spring, lantern and wisteria trellis in front of my house.

i like to use the rack of rice as blocking pwp since those are super cheap. then later you can decide wether you want to replace it with another pwp or demolish it. or keep it because the rack of rice is really cute actually!!! but maybe not for in front of your house hmmm....
