I see it as cheating.

I have nothing against cheating. Back in the day I loved to input cheat codes to gain infinite ammo, weapons and lives. Cheating can be fun. With Animal Crossing though I like to go at a slower pace, it's more fun for me that way. I played New Leaf legit too, but I bought another copy later on down the line just so I could do what I wanted in it and Time Travel back and fourth as I pleased.

It just seems like a dirty word these days, I don't know why.

Its wonderful and I love it.
"the developer doesn’t consider time traveling to be cheating. "
Pulled from this Washington Post article
HERE

Another case in favor Time Travel being a legitimate feature,
"Adding all the seasonal events by updates wasn’t our way to shun away time travel by any means."
Quoted from this article
HERE

And as they do say,

“We think that in order for the players to play for a very long time, and also for players to share the experience with their friends or family, we do think that playing without [time] traveling would probably be the ideal way.”,
they are not saying that TT was never intended. It simply states that for a better experience, dont time travel.

At this point its not a matter of opinion if its cheating or not.
The question now is, are you morally ok with it?

Irrelevant posts deleted. If you have nothing to contribute to the actual topic of the thread then please refrain from posting. Thank you.

I consider it cheating. However, I have nothing against it. Cheating isn't necessarily a bad thing it's simply a playstyle choice.

I don't do it. Not because I have anything against it, but because there's already a lot to do in this game and me trying to tt to move things along faster will overwhelm me. As for how I feel about it, well there's been a TT option in every version of the game except NH because the save data is tied to the hardware instead of a cart, memory card, etc. If nintendo for 20 years hasn't had a problem with TTing then neither do I.

I think it takes the fun out of the game and as such actively avoid it and don’t want anything to do with it. People can and should play however they want to though that’s their right.

feels like a new one of these threads shows up every week.

I'm sort of in the middle at this point. While I do believe it can be cheating, for some people (like myself) I benefit from it. Yes, Animal Crossing may be meant to play at a slow pace, but to be 100% honest.. I have nothing to do. The only game I can constantly play is Animal Crossing-- and due to quarantine, it's one of my only sources of entertainment (besides Youtube and Netflix of course lol). I think if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic I wouldn't time travel as much, nor would I have any of my dreamies. So although I think it can be a form of cheating in some way, I do it because I get bored.

I'm a mild TTer myself, but I have no ill will towards heavy TTers or those that decide not to TT. I have zero tolerance for those who will not shut up about TTers and saying they're playing the game 'wrong'. This game was 60 (80$ in my country), which is a lot, so people should be able to play how they like. Even if the game was 1$, why do some people get so agitated over how other people will happily spend their time? Idgi

I don't personally do it, I have in older games for different reasons, like in new leaf I had a second town I time traveled in but I never time traveled in my main town. I don't mind if other people time travel, it's really all about how you want to play the game. I'd just prefer to play it day by day. Plus, I want to experience the different seasons in the game when they change in real life! I'm excited to see my island in the Autumn and Winter!

I don't care if other people time travel bc its your game and you can create your own experience, but personally I have been liking the slow paced game play! Its really nice to go on in the morning and Isabelle tells me the real date and time, and tells me good morning or whatever, it makes it feel cozy <3

I also like waiting for things to be constructed because it makes me excited for the next day! its a really nice feeling. :)

TTing is not cheating.
I know players who have nearly completed the museum already not from TTing but from visiting towns that are in the opposite hemisphere. That feels more like cheating than TT imo/should be on the same chopping block yet no one mentions it.

It has been implemented in every single game as a feature. If nintendo did not want players to TT at all they would simply run a 24hr clock based on the initial time and date put into the game.

Some people dont have the time to play every day, and may want to get a lot of work on their island done at once rather than only being able to move one house throughout the week due to time constraints irl.
I for one work 12-13hr shifts including holidays and dont want to miss out on certain events like bunny day and the fishing tourney; both of which I missed due to work.

This all being said we dont need 1,000 threads wondering what we all think of TTing. It further divides the community and brings up old arguments/debates that are tiring and pointless this far into the game and with how many threads we already have of it.

I'll copy and paste what I just posted in the other thread
Lately I've felt like everything has been switched around. At first, I could acknowledge that time travelers may have been the ones getting bullied and given a hard time and I felt bad for the situation. But these days? I'm seeing a lot of meanness come from time travelers. "Oh you're just jealous I have a better town than you!" "You simply can't handle it when someone enjoys the game differently!" "All the people against time travel just have a complex they are unable to get over." "If you don't like spoilers then just stay off of the internet, k bai!"

I feel like if I don't fall down on my knees before them and profess my absolute love and support for time travel, those are the responses I'm going to get. I'm not a time traveler. I do think changing the clock on the system is a form of cheating. I do feel that it has the potential to create an unfair rift between time travelers and non-time travelers. I simply don't choose to play my game in that manner. But is it really such an evil thing that I think that? I'm not giving anyone a hard time, I'm not saying mean things. I'm 100% all for playing the way you want. I truly want everyone to have the most fun they can have on the game. And if they need to time travel to do that, then that's alright. And if they choose to not time travel to do that, that should be alright too.

I used to stick up for this place because despite what was going on with the other communities, belltree was a place where people could share their opinions without fear of being attacked over it. Now though, I'm seeing a lot of hostility, and most of it isn't coming from non-time travelers.

Personally I consider it cheating and I wouldn’t do it. I’ve time travelled before on new leaf and I did on horizons but then I reset because I didn’t wanna cheat the game. In my opinion the game was made for real time and I know the developers said themselves time travelling isn’t bad and it’s welcome, naturally the game isn’t meant to be played like that. For people who time travel it’s not a problem and I actually envy them a lot. I wish I could contently play time travelling because I am super jealous of their pretty towns and perfect villagers but for some reason I just can’t play like that. I think time travel causes us to rush the game and the game will get ‘old’ a lot faster as people complete milestones that realistically shouldn’t be completed for months and I think that’s what makes it boring for me personally. However I think if people bought the game with their own money they can play how they like. Time travelling let’s you get a head start on having the prettiest island and if that’s what your mainly aiming for then time travelling would be the best option. In my opinion not time travelling is just more fun as you take the game slow and you get the anticipation of waiting for certain things and it lets you get items at a natural pace. The idea of ‘cheating’ just doesn’t seem very appealing to me and I find it kinda ruins the game but tbf if it didn’t bore me of the game, I 100% would be time travelling

I TTed this weekend, only to quickly make a villager move and again because I moved a villager's house and really wanted to see how it looked where I put it. I tried not to do much of anything else that would effect the game (financially or otherwise). However it's not something I would want to make a habit of and I don't intend to do it again.

I feel like it's a slippery slope and it honestly made me feel weird about my game and made me feel disconnected from it. I didn't like the way it made me feel about it personally.

I tend not to post on threads like these because I find the discussion of it more frustrating then the actually actions of it. I'll be hopeful(maybe little native) perhaps this could be this the thread that can have a civil conversation about it. I like playing as intended day by day but if you like playing differently who care if they are not purposefully ruining for others. My main thing against it, is its not an intend feature but to completely stop it the devs would probably have to sacrifice other aspects that are much more important to them. So that is why it is still doable but doesn't mean the devs endorse it.

Its absolutely an intended feature.
And if you think the devs dont endorse it, then you should go read my post at the beginning of the thread.

Basically:

Non time travellers: It's cheating!
Time Travellers: It's not cheating!

To infinity.

Oh boy, here we go again. The ride never ends.

Personally, I'm a bit biased. I time travel. I time travel to work on my projects because it's a very daunting task. Recreating a Pokemon map was the biggest mistake I've ever done. (I don't regret it, it's just the sheer underestimation I did...It's astounding.) I also cycle villagers to sell and give away (which I refer to as transit villagers in my island.) I do admit, is it "cheaty"? Yes. Does it hurt people equal as the same as E-Bay scalpers or CFW Switches? No.

Though, the surge of hate TTers got recently to the point we're being compared to war criminals or hooligans of all things is hilarious at the same time, unwelcoming. New Leaf had hacked towns and literal trees in rivers or perfect fruits that aren't native. Yet, no one batted an eye. Now it's a big deal in New Horizons? Que pasa aqui? For a game that has 0 storyline and non-linear, AC has the most mindboggling gakekeeping than ones that have linear progressions with storylines. It's so...strange? I've been staying away from the general AC:NH boards to like, stay away from discussions like these because in the end of the day, we all go round in circles. Things get heated, TT bad, no, TT not bad, vise versa. No conclusion other than divide the community even further.

Can we all just get along and mind our business?

I've played utilizing time travel since I first started playing the series back on the GameCube in 2001. It has always been my preferred style of play. I find the slow pace of day-to-day to be too restrictive and boring, and get more enjoyment and engagement from playing multiple days per real world day. That said, I haven't done it as much as I've been used to since back around launch because of the way the events are put out piecemeal via patches in this game. I know that I would be enjoying myself more going at my standard pace, but I don't want to get too far ahead and miss out on things they add, so my hand is forced.

I encourage everyone to play as they see fit and hope they will refrain from aggressively forcing their dogma on others, regardless of which side they align with more.
