My Honest Thoughts on the Turkey Day Event

It seemed like they wanted us to not stress much over the event, and enjoy the holidays with our families.
Proof? The usually tough to find or at least rare items needed as special ingredients... I'm talking about the scallop, dungeoness crab, and barred knifejaw... -were incredibly easy to get. In fact all of these I managed to catch on my first or second tries. The game clearly stacked the RNG in our favor for today. Or maybe that was just me? Curious how RNG hunting went for others on Turkey Day!

my RNG was pretty good actually! found the crab easily.

I prepped for the event, but I wish I didn't because the event went by so fast.

I absolutely thought the same as you ! I also had the feeling they increased the spam of everything to make
It more relaxing or enjoyable. 100% agreed!

I enjoyed this event! It took me about two hours for two characters, including the preparations I did over the last two days. Just enough to do for low-key fun and relaxation -- a welcome break from the grind of finding seasonal recipes. 😆 I think the developers were being mindful that folks might not have much or any time to for real-life festivities. It's also nice that the Turkey Day recipes will be available for purchase tomorrow from the Nooklings. ^^

I quite liked the event! It’s a nice little bite to flavor thanksgiving. The only problem I have is that they didn’t have unique ingredients (olive oil or sugar). That would’ve been cool. Also, I’m not entirely keen on most of the spring variations of the Turkey Day stuff but that isn’t too terrible of a problem (other than that I have to waste customization kits to get what I want).

I felt the time spent was worth the reward. Don't know what else you were expecting.
With due respect the event itself was alright there was nothing wrong with it, but the thing I was expecting was that I hope there was more recopies to do. Even when I got all the ingredients I was just done afterwards. Don't misunderstand its not like I "hate" the event or anything but I was disappointed that there was no vegetables added that was speculated since a while ago. Also the thing they did with the diys I don't know its like they got lazy just gave it to all of us. I was hoping that if you traded fish with your villagers they would give you a DIY but all they did was just give me ingredients that I'm missing but its random each time. Its my opinion you are free to disgaree but thats just how I feel about it.

it took me forever to find a barred knifejaw. I even wasted a stack of fish bait that only gave me large shadows.

I agree with spending more time with family on holidays. It's a good idea and often a huge part of many holidays.

There are also lots of people who live in countries that don't celebrate Thanksgiving today (like me) who have a full normal work/school day. I'll have a couple hours this evening to play after work but definitely not a ton of time. I'm glad to hear that I should have enough time after work to get this event in though.

I look forward to it. :)

my issue with the event was the secret ingredients bs. in NL, franklin either asked for it directly after you gave him the main ingredients or let you select it with them. (i forget which.) but here, for whatever ridiculous reason, you have to make the dish, go back to him with the secret ingredient(s), and then make the dish again and watch the same cutscene? why, exactly?

I have the ingredients prepped beforehand, but decided not to use it for the first few recipes. The fish that villagers request are actually easy to catch, and it's great that they can provide you the ingredients and hints.

I love how the villagers circle around the plaza like it's a real party. I adore it every time I see them do the reactions when the food is being revealed. I also like the fact that Nintendo is considerate enough to have the DIYs accessible to those who can't participate. Now, if only all event and seasonal DIYs are sold at Nook's Cranny every time a season passes...

Also a little disappointed with the garden stand since we lack the variety of plants to put on it (that actually looks fitting).

Overall, it's fun. I've been spamming here you go, excited, sniff sniff, and tada during the whole event.

I genuinely enjoyed the event. I wouldn't have wanted it to be too long. I really liked the villager interaction and seeing the sparkle animations around the food. I wish we had gotten a pumpkin pie item! I think I remember there being one in New Leaf. Maybe it's coming? Idk. I really like the Turkey Day furniture and the fact that it's not too overly seasonal, it can be used year round. I also love that you can customize it to look springish, that's so convenient.
I thought I would never find the freaking barred knife jaw (I didn't have trouble finding anything else) but one of my villagers gave it to me in exchange for a different fish. I was desperate or else I wouldn't have allowed them to take the fish and display it in their house lol.

I really enjoyed it! I half-prepared for it during the week, but I decided to help the indoor villagers to trade for the rest, and I found that to be a lot of fun! I don't celebrate thanksgiving where I live, but I really got into the frantic festive feeling with all the running around and fetching ingredients :)
I was glad to get a stack of diys at the end, too, and it's good to know they'll be in the shop for my alt character (though I might play again to get another cornucopia).

I’d say it has more do with you getting lucky than Nintendo wanting us to have a stress free holiday. I’ve been looking for the crab and barred knifejaw for over an hour now.

if you cant find them, go catch fish your villagers in houses want and they should give you them

While it is for the purpose of getting the DIY items, I agree that this was bizarre and felt unnatural.

I completed the event in 30 minutes without preparation. I liked seeing everyone gathered around the table, the hates were cute, and finding ingredients was fun. I agree with you OP that it felt like there was no...closure? Maybe having a different cut scene with everyone eating (unless there is one when it ends at midnight, but I doubt it) or adding additional 'interest' items in and around the plaza similar to the fireworks festival with boppers, glowsticks, and photo stands.

For what it's worth, it was a fun little event, but not something I'd enjoy playing for more time than I did.

I'm I the only one who thinks it takes so much time? I've been at it for 2 hours and still am not done :( i worked a 10 hour shift so i can't bring up the effort anymore... i wish it was little bit easier to collect ingredients, or at least give some info beforehand so i could've prepped...
Nintendo don't care for people who work on holidays and don't want to timetravel or use guides

Personally I really liked the even. I could even say it was one of my favorite so far, a good runner up for Halloween(mostly because the villagers looked adorable in the costumes). It was somehow challenging, although remaining pretty easy and not terribly tedious and all the forniture that we were given are versatile and nice. The villagers looked extremely happy in the plaza and seeing so many of them hanging out together made me feel a sense of community. The only downside I can think of is the fact that I was expecting a cooking move, and not the message and then the final result. But other than that, I really enjoyed today 😊
