My biggest complaint

For the most part, the complaints I have about the game aren't a huge deal. However, the one thing that really bothers me is villager interaction. I feel like it gets repetitive so quickly, and if I have two villagers of the same personality type they seem to be carbon copies when it comes to dialogue. I just wish there was more diversity and variety with the interactions.

Also I know encouraging people to have villagers of each personality type is mostly a good thing, but god...all the villagers I want are either normal or peppy. Choosing only 10 of them is hard enough but then having to narrow it down even more to have just a little bit of variety is even more frustrating. If the dialogue was a little more personalized for each villager, or if somehow you could choose different personality types for the same villager then this game would be god-tier. 😭 😭

I understand the feeling. Unfortunately, it seems like options will always be pretty limited with the amount of villagers there are... I would've liked if they had added either more dialogue or a new personality.

i’ve seen some posts where villager interactions seems extremely similar at first, but the more you talk to them and get to know them it actually changes up a lot. i have yet to confirm anything for myself, but i like to imagine it’s like meeting someone new. it’s like any start of a friendship where you talk to them & it’s just basic small talk/conversation whatever, but then it’s more frequent and all of a sudden you’re best friends. this is what i’ve heard acnh villager interaction is similar too! c:

I have 3 smugs (Jacques, Raymond, Marshal) and 2 normals (Merengue and Mitzi) and I feel like they're different from each other?
I mean there are times the dialogue repeats but there are some unique ones that are tied to their sub-personalities. Like, Mitzi would talk about studying and relaxing more (Education-oriented) while Merengue prefers to talk about having time to go outside and being with nature (Nature-oriented)

Raymond has a peppy-like dialog and is very energetic (waves with both hands while Jacques and Marshal don't). Marshal is laid-back and somewhat same to Jacques (Music-oriented subtype) though Marshal tends to be more reserved than Jacques and Raymond.

Have you tried comparing their dialogues? Mind you, I gift them fruits every day to boost their friendship. Perhaps, you should get to know them better.

I play at night a lot so there are times when I just wish they would mention the time of the day or something. I was hoping they would ask me why in the world i’m awake and gardening at 3 am in the morning. Maybe they do mention the time of the day in their dialogue but so far I have not encountered any (maybe i forgot).

When I first started the game, my biggest complaint also was that the villagers and their dialogue was boring and same-y, and I felt like they were actual robots and were building no relationship with me!

^ But, after becoming closer with them, I've found the dialogue has opened up so much more too. The stuff they say, most of the time, I find brilliant. Although if you're wanting a few villagers of the same personality, I can definitely see the dialogue getting same-y. :(

i don’t mind the interactions. i find that the closer i become with a villager, the more unique their dialogue becomes. you’ll unfortunately always get repeated dialogue, though - there’s only so many dialogue options that nintendo can make

i want to talk to the other players who feel otherwise, because for me it's all so repetitive as well?????? i've been giving them gifts, letters and such, so i'm not a stranger to them. why does it feel like the dialogue are still so repetitive even after the events?? to be fair i do have 3 normals & 2 lazies so, eh idk

I have the same problem, I find dialogue repetitive, (stuck with 3 cranky and 3 lazy, which doesn't help either), but at the same time sometimes I get the feeling that in a way they differentiate themselves? Like Fang has a softer personality than Del, Rooney seems to be more like an older brother, and Sherb seems more sleepy-oriented than Lucky, who talks more about bugs (though the villager I had that talked the most about bugs was Stitches). I don't know if it's my mind playing tricks on me because of their appareance though, because even if they can feel a little different, they repeat each other's senteces a lot too, that's undeniable on my part.

Though I like the cranky conversation of did I leave my stove on, I love how they say the ''I'm sure I have a home'' part.

I have two normals: Midge and Poppy. I've only had Poppy for a few days and while their dialogue does overlap, Poppy is more of a bookworm and will often ask what I think about her poetry and certian book titles. I've had Midge since very early on and she's never talked about those things.

Some villagers feel different even though they have the same dialogue. I've had three peppy villagers in my village at one time, and that was too much. But Apple gives off a different vibe than Sprinkle. Even Anicotti, who left my village, seemed different than the other two even though they had the same dialogue.

At this time, I'm not extremely bothered by it since I do try to have a balanced village, but I do hope that more dialogue options show up in the future. That seems like something that wouldn't be difficult for Nintendo to do through downloadable updates.

i wish nintendo would start making villager specific dialogue beyond catchphrases, not for every character ofc but maybe for some distinctly designed ones like Ankha or Tia.

That has to be one of my favourite things a villager has said. I actually laughed out loud when Grizzly and I had that conversation.

When I played late at night and would talk to my villagers that were awake, a fair mentioned staying up late but other than that they didn't talk much about the time of day. However, as I go to sleep early like some sort of Grandma lol so I do misout on a lot of dialogue (and fish!) if I don't go out of my way to TT to that time.

I kind of also wish specific villagers had different dialogue to spice things up a bit. It would also be nice if lazies stayed up later too.

I had a few lazies that would stay up later (Walker would stay up until 10pm)

Sub-personality != villager interest. At this time, we haven't found that dialogue corresponds to villager interests.

Dividing up dialogue is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it spices things up once you finally encounter it, but on the other, it can make the rest of the dialogue feel repetitive. Sadly, there isn't much dialogue that differentiates within the personalities at all.

It would have been great if the dialogue in the sub-personalities had been fleshed out more.

I didn’t know about the dialogue getting better as you get a higher friendship level so that’s good to hear! I think mostly I wish we could somehow change the personality types of our villagers (and also make them not gender locked). I want an uchi Fauna and a smug Flurry 😩

I am good friends with most of my villagers and I find their dialogue is repititive.

I will say hello and they will all make a comment about what I did yesterday. Usually the same thing, say if I was digging up fossils. I will speak to them again and the next comment will be about my clothes that I’m wearing. Quite often Raymond will give me socks or shorts to match my outfit at that point.

Why are all my villagers obsessed with fashion? It’s weird. I have Filbert in my NH island and he is obsessed with food and bugs and my clothes. I have in my city folk town and he’s never mentioned any of those things. Filbert tells me every day I’m his snack buddy and comments on how his clothes are crusty.

Don't even get me started on how boring they became during the bunny day event. I’m not looking forward to future events if the dialogue is going to get so stale.

I wish the jock villagers weren't flanderized so much; in the previous games they were slightly more fleshed out and had more of a frat guy vibe? Now its the same 3 sentences about muscles lol. Having Genji in my NH town feels like he's my longtime friend recovering from brain surgery or something

It’s been about a month and a half now and I find myself not talking to my only jock villager as much because his dialogue is awfully predictable and repetitive with little substance. I don’t even think NL was this bland when it came to jock villagers.

Other than that though, I do think other dialogue for other personalities are a bit better imo. I just hope more dialogue is added in the future.
