My Amiibo cards don't work, please help!

Okay, I'm about to sound like an idiot. I bought a Nintendo NFC device and I put the batteries in properly and turned it on. I checked for updates and it said my NFC device and Nintendo 3DS were completely updated. I also got the Animal Crossing New Leaf: Welcome Amiibo update too.

It picks up the Amiibo card when I set an owner to it in the system menu, but Wisp can't find it when I call him from his lamp. I feel really weird talking to customer service (since I'm an adult and play video games, my parents think I'm weird) can anyone help me figure this out? I really wanna be able to play with the new update.

EDIT: I got it to work! It turns out Tipper was just being very stubborn! I got Marcel to visit just fine. Hopefully I can figure out how to get Tipper to visit since she's one of my favorites.

Did you make sure its infront of your 3ds on a flat surface so it can connect that way?

I can't really help unfortunately, but just saying that there's probably far more adults that play video games than kids at this point

Im only 20 but when I buy amiibo cards but then again my parents have china in cabinet that noone can use so you know!

I didn't start playing until I was 56, I am 58 now. Keep trying. Each time I scan my cards it takes me several tries. I found what seems to work best is slightly moving my 3ds forward and back several times.....slowly
