I'm with everyone else- I've seen a lot of cottagecore type islands, and honestly that's fine!! It's not like all of them are copies, each have their own unique flavors which makes the theme so amazing!! I'd say that my theme is partially unique (?) - I'm making my island based off of Totoro!! It's still a huge WIP but I really like how it's turning out!
Cottagecore's definitely the most popular. You'd think that they'd be boring and samey because of how popular they are, but one of the fundamental components to making a good cottagecore (and by extension, every theme that places an emphasis on feeling "natural") island is having everything feel irregular or messy, no island really feels the same, and there's plenty of room for creativity because of how offbeat everything is. So I don't mind the insane popularity of it. I've wanted a natural island from the start (not necessarily cottagecore but definitely nature-based and very cozy), so seeing cottagecore islands everywhere has been great for finding inspiration.
Yeah I agree with others saying the cottagecore theme is most common! I think the star/galaxy theme is common too, and zen theme too. I don't mind, I genuinely love the cottagecore and a lot of the items in the game lend itself well to cottagecore sadly. There seems to be a lack of other type of items, IMO!
Quaint/fairy stuff is the most common I have seen.
The most unique I have seen is somebody who had tried to replicate Jurassic Park. It was absolutely stunning. Even had a “When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth” sign.
I once saw an island tour video of an underwater peguin island which was really awesome and creative.
Cottagecore definitely seems to be the most common.
I feel like for the most part your kind of boxed in because of the furniture options. There is a lot of cottegcore, Japanese and beach themed islands cuz that’s what the furniture calls for. I enjoy seeing all the different variations of them tho. I think everybody brings their own fun twist on whatever theme they go with.
lol i know right. who would have thought pastel towns to fall from grace. quite frankly, it’ll be hard to pull them off in new horizons because of the furniture that we have. (and lack of fairytale themed exterior/items) i’ve seen some who are able to pull it off, during cherry blossom season or winter. but like, it’s still mixed now with the popular themes like zen or fairycore.
It probably is cottagecore, but I love that style so I didn't even really notice. Honestly, in the beginning there were so many "water" towns, with lots of rivers and canals, and very detailed but unnatural feeling terraforming, that I'm glad cottagecore is the biggest trend right now. I really didn't like that earlier trend, it just looked too clean and forced somehow. But all of this is very personal, and I'm glad that there are so many people making very different types of islands, even though some are more popular. I also think as others have said in this tread before that a lot of it has to do with the kinds of items available as well.
Mine will probably be “cottagecore” because I’m going for a fairy tale type theme. I have two of the villagers I want in my first 5 so that’s nice - despite the fact that it’ll be the default houses haha
