I uh just thought about this too. What is the most common island theme? Most unique? Most common i've seen is cottagecore and anything Japanese most unique is this hero island I saw by @Xeleron

A lot of naturalistic islands give off a Moors vibe (enchanted forest in Maleficent), I think that's the most common one I see, but it's so magical, I get the appeal. With so many space themed items, I'm surprised I have seen a moon/NASA themed island

I haven't seen a lot of cottagecore islands, but I have seen a LOT of Japanese inspired towns. Also there's that one theme where you see a whole bunch of stars and moons and its wintertime, IDK what that's called though

Oh it is fairycore

The majority of islands I have seen online have been cottagecore or fairycore (on YouTube + Tumblr). Next popular would be Japanese themed. Personally I have a tropical island theme and I honestly thought that would be the majority since we are on an "island getaway adventure" but I have only seen a couple of these online. I'm glad my theme is "unique" but at the same time it sucks that there are not many pictures/videos I can use for inspiration!

“cottagecore” or “fairycore”… maybe a rural town or city theme.

I don’t even have a theme, but I respect those who put effort into theming their island

I see a lot of city-themed islands, cottagecore, more naturalistic kind of vibes, but mostly a mish mosh of styles! Everyone I know has made an effort for a theme in some places but in others its not the same! I've got a pink theme but I also have a zen garden and a library that don't fit the theme.

My favorites I think are the ones inspired by movies and TV! I've flown over quite a few and people can be so creative sometimes! It's awesome!

Every island i've been to has been different! Although, I do think it's hard to make completely uniquely themed areas because we have so little furniture available to work with as of now. Once we get more and more furniture sets and seasonal items, I think everyone will be able to decorate the way they want and make their island unique to them! :)

mini tier list of island themes i've seen from trading/visiting friends island/island tours/etc.

s+ tier: cottagecore
s tier: fairycore, witchcore, space/stars idk what the theme is called,
a+ tier: zen/japanese
a tier: natural, basic/no real theme?, rural/city, tropical,
b tier: medieval, horror
c: other themes i'm forgetting because i've either never seen them or only seen them once.

even if the theme is common, they can still be unique though. i like the game for that. 😌 👍

I’ve met some people on Nookazon that had this 4 waterfall kind of thing in the entrance of their island. Every one was an exact duplicate of them with the same Valley Lily in the same placement. I don’t know if it’s because someone on Nookazon is actually helping them design the island with the same formatting or the buyers/sellers are literally copying each other off. Other than that, I love zen style and simple designs. I’m not really a fan of over itemized and over designed islands. I prefer that natural look that default animal crossing has. Though, I did like this one seller’s island theme being based off a Paris cafe.
