Shouldn't it go to the next person in line rather than re-running the drawing?
I'm so sad right now.
I was so happy when I read Mutti didn't want the plushie because that made me #37 and the winner! When there's a waiting list for something, and someone drops out, the next person in line is called. Why would you re-run the winning number? I don't think it's fair.

I don't know why this is making me so profoundly sad, but I can't stop crying about it. The winning number was 37 and I had 38, which was disappointing, but when the winner passed on the prize, I was now 37! But the rug was ripped out from under me when a new winning number was chosen.
I guess it's just one more thing in a long list of disappointments, all combining to make this the worst Christmas ever. Do you ever have that feeling that nothing can ever go right for you? Then something good finally happens for you - at last - but then it just disappears.

It's the the hosts giveaway so they ultimately choose how they want to give away the item, and thus how to handle it if the person who won didn't want it. But for what its worth, I've always seen a giveaway rerolled if the person who won didn't want it, as opposed to the next closest winner in a RNG giveaway

i'm really sorry to hear about the bad christmas you're having, i know how awful it can be to have such a traditionally happy and wonderful holiday spoiled for you. but this is very much coming across as guilt-tripping and spoils the niceness of the giveaway, since the OP is doing it out of the kindness of their heart. i don't believe there's any ill-intention here as it's pretty common to simply re-roll a giveaway if the winner doesn't respond or forfeits the prize for any reason.
congratulations to the winner, this was a super cute giveaway. i don't have any dog pictures to contribute but if i did, i would. i love seeing everyones puppies <3

I don't want anyone to feel guilty! If the first winner had stated in her post (as others did) that she already had a mom's plush and wasn't entering to win, just to show her dogs, I would have been the winner from the start. The fact that she said so after the fact shouldn't have changed the winning number. That's how I feel about it.
Obviously it doesn't matter what I think or how I feel, the host of the giveaway can do whatever they want. I just wanted to express my feelings and my disappointment about it.
