Pokémon Mispronouncing Pokemon names

Can't remember if I've replied here yet but rayquaza was one I know I pronounced wrong (ray-kwa-za instead of kway), besides that I can't think of any times I've had to correct myself.

I used to say Dialga as "Dye-a-gla" but it's pronounced "Dee-al-ga"

Suicune, but I later learned it, Lugia, because I thought of Luigi, and Giratina. XD

Maybe Arceus.

I forgot others though.

I always thought caterpie was (kat-er-pai) not (kat-er-pee) also ray-kwah-zah

I think there were a few others but those were the big ones ^

I'm pretty fine with most Pokemon name pronunciations, but I recently discovered the proper pronunciation of Illumise. It's driving me a bit crazy trying to get used to it.

Oh gosh that one sounds like it'd be horrible... Pretty sure I pronounce it wrong already..... lol

I always used to goof up on Gyrados, until I heard someone in school pronounce it differently (or, as I now know, correctly). I always use to say 'guy-rah-doss' for some strange reason. I must have been reading it's name wrong too. I also struggled with Entei too, and said 'Enn-tee-i'.

Not really but I do it with a lot of things in life haha But I got into pokemon in '99 when I was 8 or 9 years old and watched the show so I learned how to pronounce them from the show ^_^ I still watch it only now with my 3 year old son haha

I also pronounced Illumise 'ill-loom-eyes'. Rayquaza was always 'ray-qwah-zah'. I think I used to pronounce Suicune 'Swee-seen' for some unknown reason.

I'm going to list the Pokemon names I've pronounced wrong:
  • Ponyta
  • Arceus
  • Groudon
  • Chinchou
  • Mareep
  • Togetic (I would pronounce as I saw it. ^^;)
  • Suicine
  • Numel
  • Vaspiquen (I got the spelling wrong is partly the reason why)
  • Deino (I would say it as Dino for some reason. xD)

I was pronouncing houndour like houn-door instead of houn-dow-er apparently. Also if you count the series I was pronouncing pokemon wrong too. I wasn't saying the accent on e so I was calling it po-key-mon instead of po-kay-mon like Ash

This is kind of embarrassing but I used to pronounce "Mewtwo" as "Meow-two" (while imitating the sound of a cat) and I always thought it had that letter "o" before "w" until later on I've realized that it's just like saying "new" but with an 'm' instead :p

oh definitely, with like tons of pokemon. can't beat yourself up too badly though because if you grew up on the pokemon dub where they'd constantly switch around pronunciation then i think you deserve a bit of a pass. even voice actors mess up sometimes.

??? I thought that's how it was. And I pronounce Rayquaza as "ray-qwah-za" as well. Didn't know those were wrong... Oh well. Apparently Ponyta is "Po-NEE-tah" and not "PO-nee-tah," but the former sounds like nails on a chalkboard, soooooo...

I've been calling Giratina like jee-rah-tee-nah instead of gee-rah-tee-nah.
Also, is it WHY-veltal or YEE-veltal

I always pronounce the word Pok?mon as 'Poke-uh-mon' but apparently the correct way of pronouncing it is 'Poke-ay-mon.' Then all the parents pronounce it 'Poke-ee-mon'.
The X & Y legendaries are so hard to pronounce. I always call them 'Zer-Nee-iss' and 'Eee-vet-all,' but I'm sure that's probably an incorrect pronunciation.
