My obsession with making my island easy to navigate contributed to a aesthetically pleasing map. Wasn’t even expecting it to look as good as it does, lol.
I thought all the fancy maps were mostly for memes and people weren't being serious. What matters to me is what I see in the game and how playable it is.
I had a heart pond for a while before deciding to make that area a cliff and put my house on top of said cliff instead of having it on the first level. For the most part, my "terraforming" is just paths. I have changed a river so I could move Nook's Cranny back, but looking at my map... I want it to stay how it spoke to me. There's an island on the island that made me pick this map, that remains largely unchanged, but if anyone is picky about how maps look you won't like mine.
Plus, a large area of my map I left natural and let the flowers grow wild, sorta like separating my island into more natural and more developed, with all villagers living in developed sections.
All this rambling to say: I don't care what the map looks like, and let things come as they are.
part of me wishes i could have one of these "neatly looking maps" but the other part of me doesn't really care for that anymore because i find it incredibly hard to create a nice looking map without making my island even more cluttered and full of these tight paths that go in-between cliffs. i feel like it matters more to me how my island looks to other people in person rather than how the map presents it, if it makes sense. my island is still not finished so maybe my map ends up looking quite nice but at this point i'm not really concerned with it if it doesn't.
i voted second from the bottom, cos i HATE how messy my island map looks but loooove the wayy actual island looks, and im having a hard time trying to tidy up my map, so much so im just trying to get over it now ;w;
It doesn't matter to me what my map looks like either; I just wanted a town I liked the design of, whether or not it looked good "aerially" from the map perspective didn't have any bearing on it! But I do appreciate nice maps when I see them. Great towns don't necessarily need to have great maps, though!
Is there an "I don't care" option? Because I'm really not irked by the default layout of my island. If anything, I'm preserving it to keep things natural. Seeing perfectly straight rivers feels off-putting to me but hey, you do your thing.
I cared a lot about how my map looked when I first started playing, but it turns out that sometimes it's just impossible to get it perfect. Now I just try to focus on how it feels to walk around the island, and if the map looks nice too, it's a bonus!
Ive used my map to draw over it to plan how I wanted my island to look and kept comparing (just incase I went to far or to short for something). Other than that, I never bothered with my map.
I don't care what the map looks like, I have the overlay disabled anyways, only thing that matters is how the island actually looks.
And I don't judge any other islands based on maps, I find it ridiculous.
I like to have a nice flow to my town, but sometimes you just notice how things are lining up on the map, and have to rearrange everything into a slug shaped island.
It's not something I ever thought about, but having browsed some maps, some people have really dedicated themselves to make interesting designs! I don't know how it looks in person, but seeing a star or apple on the map is fun. My island is so boring in comparison... I kept it pretty natural.
I gotta admit, seeing how my map looks really does influence my terraforming! Personally I don't mind messy maps, I actually love maps that look sprawling and complicated, the symmetrical ones don't do much for me haha.
My map doesn't look good... I feel like the island itself is more important. I rarely ever look and mine and never remember to open it while at someone else's island
I will remove an area that looks awful on the map layout - even if the location itself is something I'm somewhat happy with.
I love map design and creating maps. They're something I've always considered to be a core element to my island design (and for game worlds in general). Doesn't feel right to leave it in the dust.
I kind of cared in the beginning, but now honestly I don't give the map a second thought, because in the end its the island you are looking at/experiencing and not the map lol
I would LOVE a beautiful, perfect map. But I don't think the current terraforming options make that super feasible. I don't want to invest a week of work into making my map perfect so I'm leaving my island as-is.
