I want to make my map look appealing somewhat, but honestly I can't put in all the work of makin my map visually appealing while also making my town look like that without either being thrown off. As long as my map clearly shows the pathwork and 'flow' of it then that's going to have to do for now for me.

I just let fate decide.

With me, I originally wanted to have an ongoing theme and have everything planned out. But, then my island has basically just turned into a mixture of numerous ideas. Some premeditated and some impulse. Whatever feels right at the time.

I don't. I only care about my island in the game itself and I never use the map app anyway since I know my island by heart.

I did erase a bunch of custom paths so I can lay down the default path under it so they show up on the map. I like showing the walkable paths on the map cause I think it's kinda weird otherwise. But that's the only place I have custom paths at the moment. I have some weird path patterns because I use them to make an area look prettier in person so I just let fate decide.

if i worried about how my map looks on top of how much i worry about my island looks i'd probably retire from animal crossing jsjfjssk. i have one of those neighborhoods in which all ten villagers are contained and,,,Its Just A Large Boy,,,i didnt try to make it pretty on the map lol. i am pretty proud of my lil park and the way it looks on my map tho

the issue with maps is that , they don't really help for some islands.
for instance , some islands use custom patterns without terraforming , and since these custom patterns do not appear in the map , it makes the whole island look incomplete from the map view.

i honestly don't care about it.

Untidy maps? What counts as untidy maps? I think my map might count as untidy... but only if untidy means the lack of wide, straight roads and wide, straight canals.

I have narrow, winding paths on the map that clearly show up. My rivers look untamed, they meander, and I like them that way. Nothing is symmetrical. And my island has a grand total of 3 bridges and 1 incline. I think my map looks nice... but other players will probably see it as terribly bland and seriously undeveloped.

I have fun with making squiggly paths and seeing them on my map, but I don't worry about how it looks. I do have one area that looks like a weird connecting mass in one corner, but it's a cute spot in game.

I used to care - as soon as I saw that paths actually showed up on the map I thought my day was ruined because I then didn't want to use paths for anything that wasn't actually a path. But then I realised that using them in more unique and fun ways makes the map look really busy, which is a look I like a lot because it seems more developed that way! So it worked out.

Unfortunately, I am one of those people whose Animal Crossing journey is plagued by the map! I hate how custom paths don't show up, so when you look at my map, it looks like only half my island (to the left) is developed when I really worked hard on the whole island!

I wish there was an update where we could edit the map without editing the island itself -- for example, being able to map out the custom design paths or even add labels so that we can identify specific parts of the island and organize the map better.

Not only is the map itself a stressor, but the order of the villagers on the left-hand side really gets me. I made a whole thread venting about this.

Nintendo, please hear my plea and incorporate a map editor so my sanity may be saved. Please and thank you!

My map looks nice kinda haha but I feel islands that have their island decked out are to hard to walk around. Or even take up to much space so its just bare grass with a few trees. I seen people post their map picture with lakes and rives that have made some image or artwork. But I do not even look at the map when I visit someones island.

If the area looks good, but my map looks weird, I can’t handle it. So I do care about the map. My map is very boxed looking right now though, but that’s ok. I like how easy it is to navigate :)

I didn't even realize there were people who were focused on making their maps look nice, lol. I focus on my island looking nice... and it just so happens that I always have a nice looking map because of it, but it's definitely not my focus. The only reason I use the map is when I'm gifting villagers for their pics (sometimes I forget who I need to visit, and looking at all their little thumbnails makes me go "OH RIGHT! Tangy wasn't home earlier, gotta find her!") or if I'm looking for where I might want to put something, but I do that less and less as time's gone on, since my island is quite developed now and I know it by heart and can just picture where I want to put things.

Of course, that being said, if people out there are enjoying making their map look perfect- good for them! You do you.

When I was brand new to the game, I got lost and then "stuck" on a friend's heavily terraformed island because of all the water holes and moats, waterfalls, and other hard to access areas.

I haven't liked heavily manicured maps ever since.

In my opinion, if you're inviting people to explore or to visit XYZ villager to get a DIY, then either let it be at least somewhat accessible or make it blatantly obvious that "Yes, go there" or "No, don't go there."

That said, I've only ever straightened out my rivers and reshaped my cliffs a little to make it more even.

My map is a mess. The paths are all hearts leaves and flowers, and they look super weird on the map.

Sometimes I’m jealous of other people’s neat, tidy maps. But I don’t really care how the map looks so long as the island looks better.

It seems to me that good-looking map = using a ton of custom paths, and I don't really use any, so my whole map is covered with the normal paths. In addition, I like to use the dark dirt path to plant flowers and bushes in, so the map shows all of those too and it's not very aesthetic lol

3/4 of my map is pure(ish) BROWN. I don’t care much for map look. Plus I’m sure those awesome-looking water fixtures are a PAIN and a HALF to navigate (I have a modest fixture that’s odd to move around)

Honestly props to whoever can make their map look nice, but for me personally, I couldn't care less. I just care that the town instead looks nice and is to my liking :) Really not trying to impress anyone with a map lol
