"Looks like it's time to go home" - communication error?

hi! has this happened to anyone else? id delete this thread if its unnecessary.

i was on someone elses island trying to sell turnips. this owner was letting on multiple people at a time (was abt 4 people).

i gave the owner 99k for entry fee, then went to go to their shop..

suddenly the game said "looks like its time to go home". it faded to black and then transitioned back to the game.

then a 20 second timer saying thats when the session would end, and then before the counter could finish, the game faded to black, then the resetti communication image appeared.

the main thing i was peeved about was once i came back to my own island, was that the game actually SAVED my actions, which was handing over 99k to the islands owner. i didnt get that money back.

so here i am with a big old pile of turnips and lost my 99k ):

did i just get scammed by someone ending island communication or is this something new? sorry if i am not very clear with my words.

Next time you feel something suspicious happening you can hit Home>X>A really quickly so that it doesn't save in time and you won't lose your stuff. Same if you catch someone stealing something in your town and trying to make off with it.

Yeah that sounds like the host was trying to scam you guys. I’d guess the communication error occurred because someone quit the game in an attempt to rescue your bells before the game saved, but was sadly too late.

If you want, I’m happy to give you 99k to replace what you lost, PM me a dodo code and I can come over with the bells

the "looks like its time to go home" message is when the island host decides to end that online session and kick everyone off so it does look like they scammed you

You should tip after selling your turnips, who ask to tip first is at best greedy, at worst a scammer

Yeah you got scammed.
If it's someone from these forums leave them a - review to let others know. If it's on other sites then it's a lesson about going to other sites for things (TBH I never do anything with IGB/items without going through people on TBT which're 20+ rating)

Or you can hit the 'Power' button which usually puts the console to sleep, which is a very fast way. (Correct me if this is incorrect)

That sucks that happen to you . If this person is tbt make sure leave feedback to alert to others. Else where just have very cautious unfortunately people can poop.

MysteryMoonbeam has the closest guess, I think. Ending the session with the "-" button is a legitimate way to conduct an exchange, especially for large-scale ones (e.x. A host offers to let a bunch of people sell Turnips. After everyone is done, the host ends the session so that everyone leaves at once and is faster for the host/visitors), but in this case, it was just used as a scam. And the communication error was someone trying to DC to reset everything, but they weren't fast enough.

A ton of people are using "entry fees" to scam people. Tipping after selling Turnips is normal and should be expected, but you should be wary of anyone who says, "Give me Bells before I let you even see the shop." I know some of these scammers don't even have the supposed high prices that they do; they just lie and scam people out of "entry fees."

Gosh! Sorry you got that! It sucks, why do we have these types of people? Surely we all should be respectful of each other in the community, grateful and thankful towards one another. Does my head in when people take advantage of others!

whats their @ I'll go off.. That sucks! Im sorry to hear that :c Being scammed sucks, and its worse when you didnt even know whats happening until it was to late. Ive had a similar experience and it leaves you sitting there like "what the.. what just happened"

ahhhh i had a feeling it was such... they had put their shop in a really weird place too that wasnt easily accessible. was definitely feeling uneased.. ill know better from now on and use those tricks and stuff.

it wasn't through TBT so thats my own mistake .. i will definitely be sticking with TBT from now on as people can actually be held accountable and traced ^__^);;

thankully it wasnt too much so im not too upset, just a bit disheartened by that behavior. thanks everyone for ur advice and kind words haha <3

Always tip after you're finished what needs to be done. It comes off as a bit rude to some, but it prevents stuff like this.
