Let's talk about Raymond... again :/

I used to want him as a dreamie but as he got more and more popular he sort of lost his, how do I word this, special-ness I guess. At least in my opinion. Then I slowly grew more fond of Fauna, so I decided to keep her rather than make her temporary like she was supposed to be

I sorta feel like every villager has people who would pay top dollar for them. A lot of people like Axle,Marina, Pietro etc. and maybe some of them would pay top dollar for them even now. I feel like people aren't annoyed with them because they aren't new. Raymond just happens to be one of the new villagers and so the normal behaviors people have towards certain villagers is just behind highlighted. Coupled with the fact that Animal crossing gained a lot more people playing it recently. I feel like there's a lot of animosity towards the new villager releases because there's a lot more people talking about it and it sorta feels like a race or something. The way i see it? If you like Raymond get him, it's your game and he's one of the many villagers.

I have Raymond and he was a random move in from someone else's island.I wasn't really hunting for him but if i saw him i might pick him up because I needed a Smug villager. Either way I don't mind him and i don't see myself getting rid of him. Maybe the so called " Crazy" Raymond fanatics stick out more just like with any group of people liking something. When i played Yu Gi Oh there were so many people after the blue eyed just because its on the show and everyone just had to have it. It gets tiresome listening to people fawning over something but it's a silly game yanno.

the difference between paying top dollar for raymond vs. old villagers is that people have had memories with those old villagers. i feel like that’s why it’s less annoying because it’s more understandable and less about the hype. so yeah, to me it makes more sense or it justifies people paying lotsa bells or willing to give more nmts to get their old dreamies. not saying that raymond doesn’t make sense, ofc he’ll be expensive because rare & no amiibo, but the exploitation has gotten ridiculous at some point (2,500 nmts, $50 on ebay, etc)
that’s why it sticks out. no matter how you spin it (“i like his design” “i want him to give him the maid outfit”) paying ridiculous amount for someone new is just riding the hype.

though i’m not saying people can’t play how they want it or spend their money how they want it. that’s on them. lol. that was just my observation about the whole raymond thing.

I won't do anything to get him and I won't mess up his house, but when I get him, he'll stay. Unless I dislike him for some reason. xD I really want his house more than the guy himself.

If that's how she wants to play then that's absolutely fine!

Instead of trying to give her advice just leave her to play the game at her own pace.

overall, my goal of the game is to turn my island into a lovely place for villagers to live. Hers? VILLAGERS! She doesn't care about island ratings, DIYS, growing your island... just villagers! She barely started the game and her only focus so far is grinding to get villagers.

ngl this sounds a whole lot like me when I started playing ACNH lmfao
My friends know I would not shut up about the pace of the game bc from the get-go I wanted to island hop and adopt villagers asap 🤧 I mean even to date I absolutely love grinding NMT and the mystery islands bc I love meeting villagers that much. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. 🤷‍♀️

Also with the Raymond categories, I definitely fall under the money one LOL 🤑 (tho I didn't sell him for market price, I went a little under bc I honestly just took the first offer someone gave me)

I can understand that stand point however when i first got into the Twitter community of AC players I realized that there actually are sentimental value placed on Raymond it just had very little to do with the game itself. Some people would say that he somewhat reminds them of a cat they lost in childhood/ adulthood ect. Or he reminds them of a cat in some anime that held some value to them and the explanations go on and on. I can see the hype being annoying, that's why i mentioned it in the first post because it gets very cumbersome sure. However, if this was an old dreamie then, i think i mentioned this before, there wouldn't be such animosity towards the people who go out of their way to look for said dreamie.

As for the Ebay thing, I've seen Limburg the little cranky mouse go for a lot on ebay too and it wasn't an official card. Ebay has to tie into supply and demand and the unfortunate consumerism tied into that. If there's a whole lot of people wanting Raymond and other people want to make a quick buck you end up with a fake Raymond Amiibo for a ridiculous amount of money. Is it right? Nah. Do people fall for it? Yeah and very quickly.. but that goes back into the motivation. I'm not saying there isnt a whole bunch of people riding some sort of hype train on him, sure there are, but there are the same sort of people wanting other old villagers that they've never seen before too. I agree with you, pay what you want for the villager and it is a tad bit outrageous to spend a whole bunch of nmt on him but if you have it and he holds some value to you as a person it's sort of unfair to judge that person on their motives. Yanno?

Not to mention the people who figures that they wouldn't get Raymond or any of the newer additions with those NMT. It's a probability game to even get certain types of villagers so if you have a whole bunch of Smug, the chances are less for you to get more. That's how they made the game based on the Data mining results that seems to hold up. If you think in 300 NMT you wouldn't get a certain NCP then of course it would make sense to buy said NCP for 300 NMT because at least you know for sure that you'd be getting whoever you're paying for. Some people just dont want to play the game based on probability. It can tie into Anxiety which can remind them of current events within their own life.

An example is I saw Lolly before, I've never had Lolly though but i really wanted her. Would I pay an absorbent price on her? No. But someone might who had a cat in real life that looked like her and wanted to see her again on their island. It's all about motives and some people have pretty good ones. So to stuff people into categories seems a bit unfair to me. Especially when it's taking the outlandish character traits of said categories and using it to describe a whole group of people playing a game.

I intend to randomly find Raymond so I can give him away for free to someone. What category is that....?
