Let's talk about Raymond... again :/

To be honest, I don’t understand the hype with Raymond. He’s cute, but I hate that he’s fixed to the kind of “business man” vibe. My boyfriend wants him really bad cus he’s top tier and a cat (my bf loves cats.) Other than that, I really have no interest in having him on my island. LOL

I feel like once a villager gets to popular enough, people stop finding a reason to genuinely like them? If that makes sense?

like people just have this weird mindset with certain things where if they start liking it they don't look into themselves for why, but go online to justify their interests.. ie. I love Merengue bc pink and red are my favorite colors, and I love sweet-themed things and characters esp with strawberry themes. Some people like Merengue bc twitter told them she's an objectively good thing that people are supposed to like..

I feel like that + Raymond's genuine rarity within the game (people love things they can't have, or at least can't have easily) are the main reasons for his massive popularity

did I just use a talking strawberry rhino as an example for my philosophy on popularity and the way social media fills in an entire part of our brain that we can't seem to easily use on our own anymore? perhaps

I sorta feel like every villager has people who would pay top dollar for them. A lot of people like Axle,Marina, Pietro etc. and maybe some of them would pay top dollar for them even now. I feel like people aren't annoyed with them because they aren't new. Raymond just happens to be one of the new villagers and so the normal behaviors people have towards certain villagers is just behind highlighted. Coupled with the fact that Animal crossing gained a lot more people playing it recently. I feel like there's a lot of animosity towards the new villager releases because there's a lot more people talking about it and it sorta feels like a race or something. The way i see it? If you like Raymond get him, it's your game and he's one of the many villagers.

I have Raymond and he was a random move in from someone else's island.I wasn't really hunting for him but if i saw him i might pick him up because I needed a Smug villager. Either way I don't mind him and i don't see myself getting rid of him. Maybe the so called " Crazy" Raymond fanatics stick out more just like with any group of people liking something. When i played Yu Gi Oh there were so many people after the blue eyed just because its on the show and everyone just had to have it. It gets tiresome listening to people fawning over something but it's a silly game yanno.

You forgot the fourth player, "neat a cat"

they just see a cat and want it, they're like the 'forever friend' but don't care its raymond, they just see cat
LOL this IS and was me all my Animal Crossing days
In Wild World? Olivia
City Folk? Lolly
And then she left me and I settled for Tabby
New Leaf? Well I somehow had 5 cats move in so I was happy to see old fav Olivia and legends Ankha and Rosie from sheer luck!!!!
Now I plan my island villagers and have amiibos but if I'd seen Raymond in my campsite I definitely would have loved him because CAT

I brought Accountant Cat onto Evwirt cuz I needed him to audit an enchanted forest. It seems to be getting to his mind already.

For real though he’s been a mild dreamie of mine (my bro just got into his career as an accountant so he’s got some sentimental value). He’s probably not going to be permanent but he’ll be the last non-themed villager to move out, definitely. He’ll definitely be loved before that happens (even if his overall value goes down)

Just let your sister play the game the way she wants to, I'm sure she'll either enjoy the game her own way or change her playing style. :)

About Raymond, I like him and he's the kind of villager that fits a bunch of different town styles but I don't understand all the hype. It reminds me of Marshal in NL. But hey, if people love him that's just fine by me.

I have him and he's pretty friendly! I like him but I can understand that the fangirls around him can get really annoying though. I do remember he used to be severely hated several months ago to the point where I think there was more hate than love for him.

i have the cat bc i like his design since i think he looks pretty neat as a villager. end of story.

negl each time i see him as the topic of a discussion i kinda roll my eyes bc it's always the same stuff over and over lol. people give reasons to hate him or they're just doing way too much to express their weird obsession over him. it's a "it's not that deep" moment.

i think the only raymond content on the internet when it comes to discussions about him that i do enjoy reading through are stuff about how people have genuinely find themselves enjoying his presence on their island after taking him in either to profit from the market by selling him or just taking him in for the pure sake of hype train.

other than that it's all the same stuff of i hate him he's overhyped or i love him i cannot function without him. lol chille.

I got him because I love his design. Also he kinda reminds me of my old cat. I did pay 100 nmt for him on Nookazon but that was after searching for him for months. I understand he's rare and all that but I don't get the people who overcharge people who actually want him.

That’s probably me lol since popularity means nothing to me and I just love him because he’s a cat and I like his design. There are a few cat villagers I have no interest in, so it’s not a completely accurate description of me but close enough.

I like Raymond, I thought he seemed cool and I like cats generally. I got him for 50 nmt a while back, the hype and hate was really,,, weird. Like others have said people can be really opinionated over a virtual cat.

Raymond's cute, but I think most cat villagers are cute! I wouldn't go out of my way to get him but I get why people want him so much: cat + new character + scarcity + unique design = demand. It's just the economy babey! I think if he gets an amiibo card everything surrounding him will calm down.

Same! The fandom kind of irks me with the whole "MUST PUT HIM IN A MAID DRESS". Some femcels take it too far... I had Raymond randomly moved into my island after Olivia left. Originally, I was going to have Marshal as my only smug. However, I took a liking to Raymond due to his character design and interior home.

The fact that he's a businessman?! Yes! Just like my boyfriend. I am in love with learning about finance/investments, and the actual stock market. His eyes are also my favorite feature about him.

I don't mind people disliking Raymond but it gets annoying when they put us in a bubble with the rest of the Raymond-crazed group. Not that there is anything wrong with that. You do you! If you want to spend 400+ NMT for him, go ahead.

I fit into category two: he came to my campsite, I saw dollar signs and I invited him with no intention of keeping him. Sold him on here for a fair amount of NMT which enabled me to find the villagers I REALLY wanted. I have nothing against him but he just didn’t suit my island theme.

Funny analysis <3
I only want Raymond because I’m making a cat island and he’s the only smug cat personality type.

I’m going to take my chances in Nintendo’s random move in mechanics that try to fill a plot with a personality type that is missing from the island. Seems better statistically then island hoping.

I teach middle school, and your sister's behavior sounds totally normal for her age. I get that she's annoying you by repeatedly asking you for help, but you just need to stop engaging in conversations about the game with her if it is bothering you so much that you need to make multiple threads about it. Tell her you prefer to play the game on your own and not talk about it, and walk away, shut your door, etc.

As for how she's "obsessed" with villagers and wants cute villagers, etc., let her enjoy what she enjoys. Everyone values different things about New Horizons, and it sounds like you guys just put emphasis on different thing in the game, and that's OK. Both preferences are equally valid - don't try to force your play style on her, since it will just leave both of you feeling resentful. Remember - the game is meant to be fun! And it sounds like trying to get your sister to change her mind or play how you play is really stressing you out. So it might make you happier to ignore her play style and just go back to enjoying your own game.
