Joy con drift makes this game unplayable.

i bought electric contact wd40 and fixed them that way! there’s lots of guides online :D

have you tried this? I did it a few weeks ago and they've been working fine ever since. afaik it's not a permanent fix but it should help until you can get new ones!

I've heard that the main reason for joycon drift is some part of the mechanism wearing out super easily, rather than dust on the sensors. While this will definitely help i dont think its a permanent fix (i know you said its not, im mainly just responding to the video lol)

I know how you can fix procontroller drift by changing a specific part but if anyone has a proper fix for joycons (like taking them apart and replacing or changing a piece) that would be incredible

Did they start drifting after playing AC?
I actually ordered a pro controller just for AC (though I play on my Lite). Was worried about the drift after knowing how many hours I'd be putting into the game. I'm actually happy with the pro controller and thinking of getting the Animal Crossing themed battery controllers once I can get my hands on them.

There are videos on replacing the analog stick on Youtube (you'd need to order a new analog stick on Amazon).
Though since I know nothing about technology, I would never attempt to fix one myself.

I honestly wonder how I've been so lucky with joycons over the years...because, I own several pairs, and have never had drift.

Is the drift something that happens straight out of the box...or does it develop over time? I wonder if the play-style of some people could lead to drift where others have no problem...? I feel like I've heard about people buying brand new joycons that had the problem. So...yeah. Guess I've just been super lucky with all the pairs I own.

Drift is so irritating, especially in this game :/ It normally gets extra bad after I have been playing splatoon 2 lol. Mine drifts upward, but also, it has like a dead spot on the bottom, so I have press down a bit harder in order for my character to go down ;c

With some people it seems to be wear and tear but with others, they seem to experience it just weeks or even days afterwards.
So I really have no idea.
I kind of try to be gentle with my joy cons when I'm playing but I bought a pro controller anyway because I knew that I'd be playing AC for hours on end so didn't want to take any chances.

I think it could possibly be both. I think my drift is from playing Splatoon 2 (possibly too roughly?) and constantly having the joy con going up (forward) The drift on my joy cons have all been over time though (I think about a year on my first pair and maybe 6 months on my other pair?)

I have the exact same drift, lol.

I’ve also tried the recommendations above. They worked, at first, but now the drift is back and I’d say worse than before. Honestly, it sucks

My joycons are pretty old (I got them on release), but they never drifted in handheld until now with AC 🙄.

Its something that happens overtime, so since you've been using multiple thats probably why
I play a lot of games that use the left stick MUCH more than the right and so my left stick is suffering a lot more because of that

I didn't realize how annoying the drift was until I was laying paths or terraforming. I'd misplace a path square or add/chop a cliff I didn't want. It gets really annoying after a while when you have to keep fixing it.

Did you try replacing the analog stick yourself? That seems to be the only permanent solution but looks too hard for a newb like me.

I'm on my fifth set of joycons after Nintendo has "repaired them" and sent them back in what they claim is working order. They've worked for a day or two, and went back to drifting even worse than before.

SO FAR (knock on wood!!) this fifth pair has been okay. I bought it right before quarantine, and the only difference in how they've been handled is that they haven't been put into a carrying case. At all. (I've also used this set a lot more than I've ever used any of my old sets of joycons.)

I'm wondering if the cases put pressure on the joycons and somehow damage them? That's the only thing I can think of. That, or the newer joycon sets have better parts. Who knows.

I also bought them from a place that runs a one year warranty program, and if there are any issues, you can just exchange them for a new pair, and they will handle the repair/refurb with Nintendo.

both of my joycons drift and i'm honestly going to lose it ;;; i'm considering buying a pro controller bc everyone's been recommending it, but i usually play handheld and idt buying more joycons will help (bc they'll develop this problem as well).

my left joycon drifts upwards a lot, and i can barely move downwards (trying to travel south w my character results in the awful s l o w walk of death or no movement at all), and my right joycon is a big mess also, so whenever i go into buildings i orbit around like crazy. trying to select options on the menu is kind of roulette at this point: today i started a bridge project w/o meaning to (i was just imagining it, but instead of hitting "nevermind" my joycons jumped right before i clicked A and selected "let's build here!" for me)

it's just a whole mess and i really might just shell out the money ;;

I’d try but I’d need a new analog stick (which I can’t get bc we’re on mandatory quarantine at the moment)

Honestly, I only recently got the newer pairs. My original pair (the gray ones) still work fine...and I used them for 90% of the time I've had the Switch. I just decided that I liked having different colors at some point, so I bought new ones even though I don't need them. Lol. But, yeah...I don't really rotate them that much. My original gray pair have absorbed a significant amount of use. I even had a friend who used my Switch with that gray pair, and he was like "Wow...why does your Switch feel so good?" If anything, I think that original pair somehow got better with age. Hahaha.

I ordered a hori d-pad joycon for exactly this reason. I wanted to be able to play AC in bed, but I had drift for this game. (Haven't had issues with others) It was around 25 euro, and it's only a left joycon. If your right one is drifting, this won't help. This one is cheap because it has no battery though. You can only use it for handheld.

Mine started drifting right after we went into lockdown, like it had just been waiting for it! I would have happily bought a new pair of joycons but only in grey and they’re so hard to get. In the end I just waited for new analog sticks to arrive and now I will be sure to keep at least one spare for times like this in future.
