Joy con drift makes this game unplayable.

Drifting has been a huge but strange problem for me. Some days it's so bad that my villager is literally running to my beach (without pressing B of course) and I can't navigate my menus at all. But some days it's perfectly normal. Idk what or why it does this but everyday is a gamble

Honestly, I'm worried about my joy cons dying any moment now. I want a pro controller but they're pretty pricey. :(

I have a pair that have been drifting for a few months. I'm quite anxious about my AC Switch controllers developing a drift problem too, but we'll see.

It's not unplayable on my old Switch, though, but it's really annoying. Sometimes I end up dropping the wrong thing or choosing the wrong thing in a menu or randomly running to the beach when I lose focus for a few seconds or minutes.

Actually, come to think of it, my other old pair also drifts though it's not a sudden spike like the others are. It's just a general tendency to drift to the left ever so slightly. I sent in that pair to Nintendo twice and they never fixed it even though they said they did.

i feel like this is the only game my joy-con drifts on lmao

thankfully i have a pro controller but i hate the way those vibrations feel, especially for fishing...

Why is this a problem in the first place?

(Mine drifts toward the left. Which is really inconvenient when I am hosting visitors.)

My character will run around possesed because of the drift, lmao. I hate Nintendo so much for this. Also, because I'm from Latin America, there's not Nintendo "support" service I can go to, unfortunately.

I have three joycons that drift. my both original pairs. one that started drifting after 10 months and the other after 2 years. Eventually I bought the pink and green joycons and my pink one started drifting after 10 months as wel but it isn't so bad. Since I play 99% portable I use hori's dpad joycon and my green neon joycon. I've never had an issue with the hori after 1 year+ of constant everyday use. The hori dpad is cheaper and can probably find it online at target. Even with quarantine I don't think it would be hard to find it online places like target and best buy since they're shipping unlike amazon who only shipping essentials.

My bf had a Switch lite he was playing on and it literally started joycon drifting when we got the game. Had to get a regular switch for him, since we didn't want to send it in for repairs right now ... at least now with the regular switch he can change the joycons if it happens again.

Haven't had my pro controller fail me yet. Sucks that we even have to worry about this, considering we have old GC controllers that work amazing still.

A note on fixing them, if you tamper at all with them, then it voids your warranty and you can't get them fixed for free. At least that is what it says when you fill out a slip to get them fixed! I did mine right before this all happened since my left one was drifting bad

You can buy replacemts for 15 bucks on amazon

Also suggest buying a pro controller. WAY more comfortable, and I think the Joystick drift doesn’t happen as often.

Unfortunately, I live in Chile so it would take a while to ship (even more now with the quarantine and pandemic going on). Also, I also play handheld 99% of the time.

mayhaps if you wouldn't be able to fix it manually then you could consider changing your controller mapping in the settings (so that the right joystick is the joystick used to move instead of the left one and vise versa). they added the option to do this in the new switch update recently and joycon drift fixing was the first thing that came to mind for me

definitely unviable for a lot of games, but I tried it myself on AC and didn't have many complaints. so mayhaps it could at least work as a temporary fix?

I forgot the video link, but theres a “skirt” underneath the part that you handle. Use a q tip With isopropyl alcohol on it, and pry it under there. It‘s Only good for an hour, then you have to reapply it, but it’s better than nothing

So I recommend doing what I just said, and order a pro controller right now so it gets there faster

lately my joycons have been drifting quite a bit, like it’s really especially annoying when i’m terraforming or even hitting rocks. but honestly the worst part is when i’m trading with others and it starts to drift and it just makes me look really sketchy... my anxiety starts to go up in fear they end the session or something LMAO

I got drift so much faster playing NH for less than two months so far than I did playing splatoon 2 for almost two years. It's insane.

:O This might work, where can I change this? In AC settings or switch settings?

it's in the switch settings!
settings > controllers & sensors > change button mapping > change > control stick settings

then toggle how you see fit~ I also don't know how comfortable it would be but you could also try swapping the d-pad buttons with YXAB to make it feel similar to how it would normally feel. play around with it i guess lol

What worked for me was air dusting under the guard, then recalibrating the joy con in settings.

I've heard that the main reason for joycon drift is some part of the mechanism wearing out super easily, rather than dust on the sensors. While this will definitely help i dont think its a permanent fix (i know you said its not, im mainly just responding to the video lol)

I know how you can fix procontroller drift by changing a specific part but if anyone has a proper fix for joycons (like taking them apart and replacing or changing a piece) that would be incredible

You mean repairing the joy-stick of the Joy-Con? You can buy replacement joy-stick all over Amazon, some of which come with the screwdrivers and everything you'll need. I've done it; took about 30 minutes for both of them and there are a ton of videos online :)

Mine only started drifting when I started ACNH, prob bc I've never played anything as long before... it sometimes makes my characters start moving up, and it's just not as responsive and I have to really force it around to get my character to move ugh.

I do have a pro controller but I like playing mostly in handheld so this is getting really annoying, I've heard that even for the new joycons this problem hasn't been fixed like... wtf...
