Items and Town Rating

Hello!
So I did some decorating and I made a little outdoor shopping area next to Nook’s where I dropped some tools and materials (so I can just grab them quickly without having to buy and craft more). Isabelle told me that there are items on the ground that I should pick up to improve ratings, so I’m wondering if it would help to put them on a table or something? Anyone know anything about this?

im pretty sure that if they are dropped onto a table it doesnt count as being dropped on the ground. ive seen 5 star islands with 'crafting stations' and they have all their materials on tables!

You can get 5 star with weeds as well. It all depends on how much extra stuff you have to compensate for the markdown
