"Island" or "Town"?

Island although I say town sometimes out of muscle memory from playing older animal crossings lol

Technically speaking, you're still building a town on an island, so both terms are correct.

I call it an island. I've been playing since gamecube and sometimes I just go to back to the thinking of my island being a town. Plus, the villagers will always be villagers to me. Now that my islands more developed it feels more like a town.

I tend to call it a town out of habit from the previous games. I try to say island when I'm on here but I have to correct myself quite a bit.

At the start I would say town but got used to saying island now. Not got used to saying islanders yet, don't think I will, I prefer to say neighbours now

I try to say "island," but yes I'm so used to calling it a town from CF, WW and NL. Typically I now resort to just calling the downtown area within my island the "town," while the island also includes neighborhoods, a countryside and a forest. The animal residents are still "villagers" to me, though, because that's the common term for them in the AC community.

It was a pet peeve of mine when we were waiting for the new AC to come out and people referred to the human characters as "mayors," but I suppose if NL was your first AC I can't fault you for that. Also "resident rep" is a mouthful

Lol at the beginning, I would still say mayor XD. The friends i played with never played AC before so i felt weird and changed the habit. Now i just say "my main" or "player character." Island rep just feels so foreign to me still haha. It's the same thing how I prefer being called my second name irl but no matter how I try to tell people to call me that instead, they never do cuz they're not used to it and even I feel weird and fake being called my second name since I've been called my first name all my life. I'm not used to it. It's very strange how words and names just stick with you. It's hard to change habits sometimes XD

I always slip up between the two because I'm so accustomed to using town. Maybe I haven't been paying attention but I rarely see people call villagers islanders. Didn't know this was a thing!

I say town. New Horizons may be an island, but a town is the core of Animal Crossing and is here forever.

I try to remember to say island but I also find myself saying town a lot (for the same reason, the fact that it was always a town in previous games). I also still say "town hall" instead of "residential services" a lot haha

my friends who've played previous instalments know what I'm talking about, but I've def confused some of my friends who've only played ACNH haha. Now that I think about it, I guess even villagers should technically be called islanders now!

I’ve played Animal Crossing since the GameCube, and while I call the town in New Leaf a town, I call the island in New Horizons an island. Because that’s what it is. An island. Don’t mind if others call it a town though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I definitely say town due to habit from playing the other games. Sometimes I remember and say island but that's pretty rare.

The real question is: Villagers or Islanders? XD I had to force myself calling it "my island" because a lot of newcomers wouldn't understand me otherwise, haha!

i tend to call it an island as thats what i told my parents and grandma so they ask me "hows your island doing"

I say town most of the time. When I'm typing, I catch it sometimes and change it to island instead. I'm used to saying town because NL had a town. Also I think most people still say villagers instead of islanders.

I try to refer to island, but easily slip into town just because of the older games. Island just feels so wrong to me, it doesn’t sound AC related at all.
