Is there any down side to custom path borders?

Just looking for a bit of advice, really.

I've seen pictures of these kind of custom path borders before and have found one on Twitter I like the look of...

My question is: are there any downsides to using these kind of borders, other than the time and effort it takes to place them correctly all over your island? I'm just worried there may be some hidden negatives to this that I'd rather be aware of before I go crazy with these patterns.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The only really negative things that I have with them on my island is that it doesn't stop the villagers from going into my gardens as well as they take up so many design slots. I really wish they'd give us more design slots.

Other than that nothing really bad. Also if you hate your borders, you can literally just save over them with the other one you want and it will replace them. So you won't have to lay them down again. Just make sure that you are replacing them in the right spot otherwise you will have to fix it.

They just take up soooo many slots. I feel like I'm missing out by using them, but meh. They're cute. They're a pain when you accidentally erase them, too.

Oh yeah and they don't make the little foot step sounds :( unless you make your path wide enough.

Not that I could think of. The only concern you need to have with custom paths in general, is that you should be careful when you're picking up items near/on them. This is because when you press Y, it erases the path. It's a minor inconvenience, but that's pretty much it.

That's really good advice and definitely not something I'd have thought of! Thanks. I've placed them in one section of my island as a trial for now and I think they look cool.

The number of slots they take up is pretty hefty, but I think I can cope with that.

I wish there were some way to 'lock' custom paths in place so they can't be accidentally scuffed away with 'Y', though!

Do you know if visitors can erase them too?

THIS IS THE WORST. I know they tried to make the sound all-encompassing but ugh I cringe every time I hear the "shoes on carpet" sound knowing I'm missing out on the beautiful brick sound. why can't they make it so that transparent designs placed on top of regular pathways sound like the pathway they're on top of :(

oh and also the design slots. I mean that's just a heinous amount of slots used isn't it

100% vistors can't erase your paths! :)

Isn't that just patterns put on the ground, not custom paths laid with the island designer?

Honestly the main reason I wouldn't want them is because of the sounds that they make when you walk and run on paths.
I like the way they look, but I like the sound of running on a stone path more.

honestly, though it'd be a different problem with using the same custom design on multiple surface types, it'd be cool if you could tie sfx to custom path designs

wooden sfx for wood paths, stone sfx for stone paths, etc
