I'm honestly curious. I've been wanting one for forever, but you know how Nintendo is, they put out a new console what seems like, every 6 months. I'm wondering if the Wii U is still at it's prime now? Or is there an even better console similar to it in the works?

you should be fine, if the last console gen's life cycle is anything to go by

most of Nintendo's **** you're thinking of tends to be just sidegrades anyways. something their competitors do too

even if they put out something "better", I can't imagine it'd be all that much different. just maybe having a larger storage capacity or something simple like that

Now is a good time for a WiiU. A large library of exclusives that you're probably well aware of that will hold you for quite some time.
Nintendo never puts out a new version of the same TV console. Meaning the Wii never had an upgrade, the GameCube, the N64, etc etc, they all stay the same. The WiiU won't likely be any different. The handhelds are the ones that get upgrades like from Gameboy to Gameboy Color, DS to DS Lite or 3DS to New 3DS. The only time they do anything is make facade adjustments. Like the Wii Mini, it does nothing different from a normal Wii. You won't be seeing a "New WiiU" that doesn't play "Standard" WiiU games.

Also Nintendo has said a bunch of times even recently that they've got a lot left planned for the WiiU so you shouldn't feel insecure about it being uprooted anytime soon.

I really do feel like now is the time to get a Wii U, because now the Wii U's life has really begun.

Yeah, the Wii U has been out for a few years, but Nintendo tanked on them when they first came out and Wii Us only really began to sell last year with the highly-anticipated releases of Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. Wii U. And with Amiibos having launched recently and new games on the horizon like Splatoon, the new Zelda game coming out for Wii U, Star Fox, DLC content for many games, and more, now is really the prime time to get one, in my opinion. I don't see Nintendo trying to force another upgrade this soon, because it wasn't until this last year that the Wii U actually really began selling well and making Nintendo money. They're going to want to keep that going for at least awhile, in my opinion.

And to be honest with you, I feel like the Wii U I bought last May was literally my second best purchase of the entire year. I've gotten so much out of it and even more games and content are well on the way.

Thank you! This was what I meant. You addressed my fears perfectly x'D

That's good to know. I'm super hyped about The New LoZ on the Wii U and the possibility of the new AC game for it.

Also your signature is absolutely adorable!

Sometimes they do games exclusive to new console. Like with the new 3ds coming out.

and that's been the only actual "upgrade" since the 3ds first released in 2011

also, handheld life cycles just aren't comparable to console life cycles. they're two completely different beasts

And the eShop is just so wonderful. I go on it every day or so to do some browsing and look at all the Indie games I contemplate to buy.

Well yeah, with Smash 4 Wii U out already and games like Zelda Wii U and Splatoon on their way.

Their competitors do it?

The closest I can think of to their competitors doing the same 'sidegrades' as Nintendo are slim versions and larger harddrives.
It's hardly the same as say the 'new 3DS' which actually has exclusive content locked to it. I can't imagine any of Nintendo's competitors ever doing an actual significant upgrade like that (because it's actually a terrible decision).

But anyway, I can't imagine the Wii U getting any significant upgrades.
Non of the Nintendo home consoles have ever really had upgrades to them that might force you to buy a new one, aside from color changes or limited edition consoles such as the Pikachu N64. Even then, the special editions don't do anything different and they're not really a 'thing' anyway when it comes to home consoles. You can live without them.

In short, you're almost certainly fine and won't *NEED* to upgrade your Wii U until the actual next gen actual Nintendo console gets released.

As far as games go, it's probably the best time. It has a pretty decently sized library these days with some quality titles to play, not to mention 2015 has a lot of new good looking games coming out as well. This isn't to mention if you have an interest in older Nintendo games since the Wii U eShop has games from the NES - The N64 (through Wii mode).

As a bonus, if you didn't own a Wii, the Wii U is backwards compatible allowing you to play Wii games on it. That's a whole other library for you to get into.

The Wii U gets some flack from the majority but really, it's easily the most worthwhile console on the market right now.

and like I said, the N3DS has been the ONLY actual upgrade since the system first released in 2011.

I'm really baffled by how many people can't seem to figure this out, despite repeating myself over and over.

Also, I really want to emphasize that comparing handheld and console life cycles to one another, and using that as a judgmental basis is a terrible ****ing idea.

if you are a big fan of smash and mk8, then go for it
i personally think you should wait until zelda wii u & xenoblade x are close, but that's just me

YES. WiiU = WINintendo. The eShop has a bunch of good things and retail has much to offer. Lack of third party = who cares. It's not hindering the experience for me any.

There are a bunch of great games for the Wii U so I would say yes. Although, I have had Smash Bros. since December and haven't been able to play it since I refuse to use the Gamepad. I'm praying they release the Gamecube Adapters again because I need to use those controls. My only other complaint is the Gamepad itself. Some games you just want to use the Wii Remote and you're stuck with the Gamepad. Plus, it's always on wasting battery. Other then that, it's a lot of fun.
