Considering Chief is kind of based on a Fox, does Kyle is based on a Hyena. His color scheme kind of remind of one

I think he's based on an African wild dog. Also called a painted dog. Fairly rare species now. A very pretty creature in my opinion.

According to nookipedia (not always a 100% reliable source but in this case it seems accurate) he is based on an African wild dog, and his name on Japanese is derived from the genus name of the African wild dog, lyacon

I agree with @angelcat621 they are a very pretty species.
