Is it me or do villagers lose their value when EVERYONE wants em?

It was the worst part of the amiibo update in New Leaf, everyone had a mixture of the same 20 villagers, so boring.
People just seem to want villagers based on popularity, it's a shame, personally I don't want to see my villagers in other towns, it's boring.

I mean I don't mind the amiibo update that is convenient to add villagers but on the flip side yeah having the same 20 villagers based on popularity is boring,,

I think it's a shame that despite the fact that there's over 400 villagers, you always seem to see the same 20 in everyone's towns. I can appreciate the explanation that "well, they are popular for a reason" but in most cases, people are going to seek the "popular" villagers simply because everyone else wants them because they want that attention of "oh my gosh you have ___ villager. I LOVE them!!♥" and not because they actually like that villager.

I'm (joking) about to open my town to the public with the headline of "come see rare and exotic villagers!" because I have quite a few villagers that no one else ever seems to have or want in their towns. My villagers want some love and attention too.

Agreed! I mean I love Diana don't get me wrong,, I had her in new leaf along with Marshal but can we appreciate Filbert? Or Monique helloo!'

While i do agree that people want the "popular" villagers, i don't think people want them just because they're popular. If i think a popular villager is ugly then im not gonna keep them in my town and the majority of people ive met agree with that!
There are ofc those people who literally only keep popular villagers because theyre popular and not because they like them but i think that mindset is much rarer than people think.
It also seems that the popular ones are easier to come by since you don't see many people going on islands and getting lower-tier villagers to trade. That's not a good way to make a profit.

Ugh, yes. It's highkey the reason I kinda can't enjoy Marshal, even though I think he's pretty good without his hype.
Everyone else in my town isn't that popular besides Poppy, but she's not Marshal-like sought out after. Kind of makes him feel different compared to everyone else.

That's really sad, honestly. I feel like people need to be in their own sphere of influence for a bit and just relax. Popularity isn't bad. Not being popular isn't bad. People will like what they like and dislike what they like. As long as your happy when you see them in your town, it's cool!

And there are so many players of this game. Everyone has had every villager before. Being unique is a given though since no island is the same. <3

I think it depends on whether a villager was valued in the first place,regardless of their popularity.We should try to make our own judgements and not let all the crazy stuff that's happening right now change our minds for us.

I still love the popular villagers, but it just doesn't feel very special when you have them in your town because 'everyone' has them
that being said, I still love Diana and other ones I have that can be considered popular!
but I also really enjoy having villagers I don't really see anywhere else, that's what makes them special

you should just look at what villagers you like,
and don't really care if many people have them or not

If its a villager I have no emotional connection to then it might make me less likely to seek them out

On the other hand my all time fave is Diana.....no matter how popular she is I will always want her in my town bc of the fond memories I have of her randomly moving in right next door to me in NL

Although I do pick my villagers entirely based off of my own standards and preferences, I do feel good when my town is full of unpopular ones because I like to know that my doesn't feel cookie cutter when people visit. However I am still unwilling to sacrifice my own happiness by taking only villagers i know people dislike, if i also do not like that villager.

To me - not really! Value is subjective to each person and two people can view a villager's worth entirely differently depending on their tastes. The value of a villager is only worth as much as people are willing to pay and once those people have the villager they want, it can be a completely different story.

For me, I don't really care how popular a villager is; if I like them, I like them. There are really popular villagers that I love and less popular villagers that I love. The number of other people that also like those villagers doesn't really change how much I like them.

You sound like a pleasant person to be around.
I certainly wouldn’t be bothered if most of the world were filled with nicer people—even if that would make them less unique.

I feel like we need to be less concerned about being special and be more concerned about being happy and understanding.

Villagers are popular because so many people want them. That is how popularity works, by definition. People don't want them specifically because they're popular.

I agree it make the villagers less"rare" in the sense that they're everywhere so they aren't very unique. But it really doesn't matter to me. People can play the game however they want and live with whichever villagers make them happy.

It's a weird thing that happens to me, because I always try to build my dreamie list based on actual experience with the villagers, but now in NH I got Apollo, Roald and Bob on Mystery Islands and, while I love them all very much, whenever I rethink which villagers I'd like to keep and trade and try out I'm always afraid that the reason I can't let go of the three of them is because they're all so popular, even though there are so many other crankys, jocks and lazys that I'd like to have around the island too.

So while I didn't search for them because they're popular, it makes me kinda guilty to think that maybe that's why I like them in the first place, you know?

Maybe at the end of the day I just need to chill out and not overthink this, just enjoy them while they're there...

I'm always a bit sad when people see "ugly" villagers and they don't become popular because they're not "cute"

I don't care what other people think, I get villagers because I like them!

Doesn't matter to me. I like who I like, and I don't care if everyone else likes them or not. I just found Marshal on an island tour yesterday and almost didn't get him even though I think he's absolutely adorable, because my boyfriend has him on his island (I've actually been telling him for a while that I wanted to steal him, but Marshal is his baby and he's never letting him move) and I thought it might be weird since we visit each other often. But when I talked to him, his pouty little face made me so happy that I had to invite him to my island. I think it's silly to enjoy or not enjoy things based on how popular they are.
